Janice's Story

Hi anyone who decides to read this. By some miracle, I've entered the year of 2017 and can still walk upright. Considering the mess I made of my left knee in high school, that alone is a wonder. Another year of retirement has gone by and seeing that my life is not one of adventure and surprise, I manage to get through my days without incident or harming others. I'm not as active as I was in the past few years mainly because my dog walking days came to an end almost a year ago when my wonder terrier crossed the rainbow bridge. However, not to be confused as any other senior driver, I enjoy getting out behind the wheel of my sporty Pontiac G5 to play a bit of dodge car with all those other grey haired Vernon drivers. And there certainly are a lot of us here. Number 1 son has left Alberta and returned to the city of his birth, Kamloops where he was attempting to continue his career as an electrician. And now he's returned to the city of his childhood - here in Vernon when earlier this year, he secured employment with a new electrical company. His two children were in Calgary, one now a high school grad looking for his place in this world. And this one ran away from his unemployed life in Calgary and is living with his dad here in Vernon. He's also begun his career in the electrical field as an apprentice. Number two son still works in the Vancouver film industry and was/and is a part of the making of several movies and TV series. His Thai wife is becoming accustomed to the Vancouver weather although not actually enjoying the wind, rain, power outages and this winter - all that snow. Now that my grand daughter is two years old, they thought it was time that maybe another child would be a good idea. He or she will arrive sometime in June. Hayl...Expand for more
ey arrived June 14th, a healthy baby girl. My daughter, the youngest, is developmentally handicapped and works full time at Okanagan Springs brewery. When she was a teenager, she was the perfect child. Did everything she was asked and never argued. I was the envy of all my friends. Now she is 42 and now resists anything I might suggest. I never knew she was capable of rolling her eyes out loud. However, there are times I actually hear what I am saying to her and think "OMG - I am my mother." My husband is not enjoying winter all that much but I'm sure will become much more social when the golf season begins again. Meanwhile he keeps himself busy with his favourite winter accessory, his snow blower, not only keeping our driveway clear but helping do the same for several of our neighbours. And he really enjoys blowing the snow the plows pile up in front of the driveways, back out onto the street. It's an ongoing battle between him and the plow driver. My social life remains the same, Wednesday mornings at the mall food court to enjoy a cup of tea and a couple of hours with several of my fellow retired banker ladies. We like to people watch and often wonder if people realize what their resting facial features look like. But then maybe others think the same of us. Saturday mornings are spent with another friend and another cup of tea at Timmy's. Then a wander around town to find out if anything interesting is happening. In closing I am still very happy to be waking up every morning and as far as I know, I have no health problems. As long as I continue to ingest all those drugs prescribed to keep my blood pressure down and my heart rate steady. To everyone who has read this far - all the best for 2017 - peace, health and harmony.
