Janice's Story
Right after high school I attended McKenzie-Baldwin Business College and graduated in 1969. I accepted employment with the Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M. There I had various duties, but one of my main duties were typing highly technical research papers and books written by the department head and nine professors. I worked there until September 1974 when a gal pal and I decided to move to Houston. I found employment at Litwin Engineering as Department Head Secretary for the Instruments Department. I later transferred to Projects as a Projects Secretary and finally I moved to work as Department Secretary for the Electrical Department. I worked there for many years when the drafters talked me into learning electrical drafting so I moved from being their secretary to working at a...Expand for more
drafting board. I worked in electrical drafting until the downturn of 1981-82 when I was laid off with a lot of other people. By then I was married to my husband, Don. After the layoff, I was offered a job working part-time drafting on an as-needed basis for the Process Department at Litwin. I did that for about 2-3 years. After that, I worked at home as a homemaker. I started tracing our family trees, did some crafting, and sewing. When grandsons came along, I volunteered in their school library every week for about 10 years. I retired when my librarian friend retired. I was given an honorary member status of the Texas PTA for my service at the school. Now I am enjoying my hobbies, my husband, my family and friends and having a blessed life. We live in the Spring Branch area of Houston.
