Janie's Story
Life
I am Janie "Bond" Butts and graduated from Watkins in 1966. I have been married to Ronnie Butts since 1967, have two sons and two daughter-in-laws, and a grandbaby on the way - my first!
Since graduation, I have lived a full and happy life that I would not swap or do over. My hobbies include writing articles, reading, playing bridge with the ole gang, traveling - especially to Manhattan, and playing with our three dachshunds!
Let me introduce them to you. They are all medium-sized dachshunds. Copper. our very elegant red male, is a perfect male speciman. Savannah, our docile dachshund, is one of our black and tan girls and is quite beautiful. Bridget, our dainty dachshund, is our other black and tan girl. And yes, we are those type parents allow our doxies to sleep with us and yes I do buy them little "outfits" to wear. ...Expand for more

School
At Watkins (1966), if I had to choose the most inspirational teacher for me, it would be Talmadge Harper, who I have not seen since high school graduation day.
I do not think I would do anything differently even if I could do it all over again. What about you?
College
College for me was not the traditional "staying in the dorm" type college life. Because I married in 1966 to Ronnie, I attended college later with two children. After many years of college and earning a baccalaureate and a master's degree in nursing, I returned to University of Alabama at Birmingham and earned a PhD in nursing science.
For those of you who have gone to school a very long time to get to where you are now, do you feel as though you have made your life around a "classroom"? I certainly do--a lifetime of learning.
