Janie's Story

I attended junior high in Ft. Pierce and my sophmore and part of myjunior year. We moved and returned to Tennessee and I graduated HS here. Later I attended Hiwassee College where I met my husband and we spent15 months in Germany for Uncle Sam. We returned to Madisonville,TN where we both finished school at UTin Knoxville. Both of us taught school here in Madisonville and have retired. We had 3 sons and now have been blessed with 3 grandchildren. Most of our spare time is devoted to spreading the conservative policy our government needs to follow. I am president of the Monroe County Republican Womens Club. My husband and I devote time to a food pantry our church sponsors and several other charities in our county.I have a lot of fond memories of Ft. Pierce--- circling Higgs Drive-In and the A & W. Some of my friends were Wanda Hazellief,Joy Norvell,Shirlean Jones, and Susan Brundage...Expand for more
. My father worked at Southland Cafeteria and also had Kelly's Mug Drive-In which I know a lot of you remember. The one thing that stands out in my mind was the tornado that hit when we were in the new Junior High.We were in the cafeteria when it hit and we always stacked our books on the bookcases ourside the cafeteria. When the storm was over our books were floating down the corridors and we had to wade to class. Most of the damage was in the downtown area but we made the cover of life magazine--wow. One of my favorite classes at dmhs was Coach Lanier's world history class. Was there a Mr. Smith that taught English either at dmhs or was that jr.high? Anyway I loved Ft. Pierce. Love to hear some of your memories. I regret that I never got a yearbook. If any of you can send pictures from a yearbook, maybe our sophmore year I'd love that. Looking forward to hearing from you. This is one thing that bothers me about men’s pants. Women would never wear pants that look like this. Hem your pants, gentlemen, if you can’t find them in the correct length. Try them on with the shoes you’ll wear with the
