Janis's Story
For the idly curious...here goes...Tom and I are still happily married, if you can believe that...his mom says I have done a wonderful job of raising him...haha...Scotty waited until he was 33 to get married and has no kids...hmmm...Tom & I waited 8 years to have another son (Shon) and then 17 months later had a daughter (Sara)...Scott kept bugging us to have more kids....because it took us so long to have any more, he started hinting around that perhaps we didnt know how.....okay...he blatantly accused us of not knowing how.....he was obviously too young to have heard the original story. They were smart, funny kids & they turned out to be 3 terrific people and we have a lot of fun with them. Quite honestly, they have made it easy to be good parents, although they say it is they other way around. We enjoy their company a lot and travel together whenever possible. Since we have no grandkids that means we can all drink and party and swear as much as we want. Scott & Shon work for our company that we started in 1976 and Sara is a graphic artist with a crazy-funny sense of humor. (I mean "haha funny", not "does the milk taste funny?) Scott is the only married one. We haven't lived in Fairfield for 30 years and have not really kept up with friends from high school....like most everyone, we were just too damn busy most of the time. Happily busy, crazily busy, but occupied with the business and the...Expand for more
kids and life in general. I have always been an artist and pursued any education possible, whenever possible in that area, although I should, but don't, make a living at it. I have also taken flying lessons, but have finally admitted to myself that I will never be a fighter pilot, damn it! I believe my motorcycle-riding days are over also... I love being older although I could do without the tempermental knee etc...I like the accrued life experiences, the knowledge that only comes with a certain amount of years, the respect that comes with that knowledge & I like being able to speak my mind without apologizing for it...& at this age if somebody doesn't like what you have to say...you can just tell them to f-off...in a polite and respectful way, of course...and if they are rude then just whack them a good one with your cane...I have found it is quite easy for a little old lady to get away with a lot if you play it right....I also would like to spend what I hope will be long & healthy declining years happily painting and drawing and laughing with Tom & the Kids. P.S. After the James Frey fiasco on Oprah, I feel that a disclaimer is in order. Although, the above may be at risk of being slightly corny to some, it is all true with the exception of the cane. If I do however at some point need to use one....I fully intend to use it on rude "yoots" who are too stupid to know how good life is!
