Janis's Story

Eight months after graduation I married my first husband John Molnar. We moved to Southern California for a few months and then came back to Sacramento. My first son Jeff was born in December of 68. I attended Sacramento City College, school of Nursing in the early 70s. After graduation I worked at the little hospital in Folsom for a year. We moved to Carson City for a few months and then on to Medford, Oregon. I went to work in a hospital here in Southern Oregon. In 1976 my 2nd son was born and within a couple of months John & I divorced. Within a couple of months I met a wonderful man Tom with a 4 year son Matthew. To me Tom was bigger than life smart, funny, creative, and strong. We married in 1978 and it has been quite a ride. Our daughter was born in 1980, she was a total surprise, I was done having children. My husband and I owned a contracting company and we started medical equipment company. I continued to work at the hospital and grow the oxygen and respiratory equipment company. In 1982 I went full time in the medical equipment company and expanded to wheel chairs (power & manual) home ventilators, baby apnea monitors, diabetic supplies, and eventually a pharmacy. 1989 my husband started a video production company and started producing crime prevention videos for police departments. In 1992 my step son was killed by a drun...Expand for more
k driver, my husband began to focus his attention on drug and alcohol related documentaries and began selling them all over the world. His work has been nominated for an Emmy and won a couple of Tellys, a special recognition from the Governor of Oregon and received a special recognition from the International Film and Video Festival for his film on Domestic Violence. In 2004 I had grown our company to 7 locations in Oregon and Northern California, we had 123 employees and I had been working at it for almost 25 years. We sold the business to Apria Healthcare and went in to developing. Well needless to say we did really well in the first two years and then we were in the middle of a large 80 unit PUD when the real estate market crashed. Needless to say the outcome of that adventure is not so good. During that time we both got our real estate broker license. We continue to work in real estate and my husband has been writing screen plays and plans on his first major movie production to begin filming in September of 2010. Our three children live here in Southern Oregon, we have 6 grandchildren and I have a very blessed life. In 2013 my husband and I divorced. Now I am learning how to be single, not an easy transition after being married to the same person for over 35 years. The positive part is there is life after divorce and it is fun...
