Jari's Story
I have spent two years working full-time on a project to drill seven wells for Serabu, Sierra Leone. West Africa First, I raised nearly 60,000 dollars and now, I am preparing to take a team of seven educators to Serabu to teach the health and hygiene education that can reduce the death and disease rate for preventable, waterborne disease by 65-85%, We go for three weeks this coming June 2012. The wells were completed and are working since last month, people are trained locally for well maintenance and we hope we have sustainability. Serabu is the location of the Southern Eye Clinic of Southern Eye Institute located here in Memphis, TN. ic treated more than 10,000 patients: People who walk from countries all around Sierra Leone to seek treatment at this free clinic.
We will work wilh a class of educators and community leaders made up of 72 class members divided into six teams who will each educate about 167 families to reach 1000 families with health and hygiene education.
My book titled:" Before You Pass On Into the Flickering Light" A faith Journey in Prose and Poetry, is available on Amazon.com It was published at the end of 2006. Since then I went to Ghana West Africa with a team to put in a water filtration system. This gave me some confidence for doing a big project on my own. I leave June 7 and return June 25. 2012. Serabu, Sierra Leone is one of the most poor places in the world.
