Carolina Jarquin:

CLASS OF 1985
Miami, FL

Carolina's Story

Hi, after I graduated I went ahead and enrolled in Miami Dade Community College. I was not ready for college!! I took some classes but later on I took a break and started to travel. I went to Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Mexico. I left to study French at Laval University in Quebec, Canada for one year. I came back to Miami and visited Costa Rica again. On my way back from Costa Rica I decided that I was going back to college and finished what I started. I obtained an AA in Business. I then enrolled in Saint Thomas University to study International Business. I took classes there for two semesters. I did a semester abroad in Assisi, Italy and learned Italian. After the semester was over I stayed in Europe and traveled all around with my best friend Anna Gil (Banana). We traveled all Italy by train: Venize, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Verona, Sienna, Sorrento, Capri, Perugia, Bologna. Then, we continue to Spain and visited Barcelona, Madrid and Toledo. We jumped on the train to Paris, France and then to Niece. We stopped in Monaco on the way back to Italy. When we got back to Miami, I decided I wanted to change my major. I left St. Thomas University and enrolled in FIU to study International Relations. In 1996, I obtained my BA in International Relations and an academic certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and a minor in Health Services Administration. rsonal assistance in the Presidential House. After one year the President promoted me to be the Consular Director at the Secretary of State in Nicaragua. I was in charge of all the Nicaraguan Consulates abroad. In 1998 I got transferred to work at the Nicaraguan Consulate in Miami, Florida as the Vice-Consul and two years later I was promoted to Second Consul. In the same year I was going through a divorce and had two children. A boy two years old and a and girl three years old. In 1999 I met my second husband, an Italian American born in NY. He proposed to me in Paris, France on top of the Eifel Tower May 2001. We got married in Rome, Italy on May 14, 2001. On April 2002, our baby girl was born. On October 2002 I got a new job as a Financial Crime Investigator for the State Police in Miami. On August 2006, my husband got transferred to North Carolina and we moved. I have been in North Carolina since August 2006 and I loved!!!! I took one year off from work to help my family get organized and help the children with school. My step-daughter decided to live with us and now we have four children all together. I love my family. On August 2007 I got my first job in North Carolina. I am working for the NC Departement of the Secretary of State as the Investigator for the Charitable Solicitation Licensing Division. I love my job and where I am now. I am thankful to God for the opportunities of finding excellent jobs. I have wonderful neighbors and friends and a loving husband.
