Jason's Story
***** Preface: This thing is turning into a short novel. I originally wanted to just breifly describe myself, however I started writing and it's now looking more like a "Jason's High School Memorior". I hope you enjoy reading this. These were events and moments that touched my life. If you are reading this, and if you had spent 4 years of your life at American High like I did then you were also part of that life. Thank you for being part of my High School Expeirnce (Jason Chao, Class of 1992, American High School, Fremont California, 1988 thru 1992). ********
Hey Wazzup Guys? Yes I was Class of 1992 from American High School in Fremont, CA.
At the time of this writing, which is 5/20/2011, I just had my 37th birthday.
If you went to American High School back in the early 1990's you'd probably know me. I was best
known for been the tall asian kid with long pony tail type hair, and I was usually dressed in a black leather jacket.
Just like any other kid back in high school, I thought I was a bad ass, I cut classes, I smoke cigarettes (still do), etc.
But I guess that's just a part of growing up.
Having just immigrated to this country in 1988 from Taiwan and entered High School. It was very difficult for me.
The language barrier was very pronounced as I struggled to learn the new language. I spent the first year or two
at ESL (english as second language) classes with Mr. Dan Toft and Ms. Maria, and Ms. Pack. One thing that was
comforting to me was that most kids had the same issue, they had just came to his country as well. Besides the language barrier, I had to learn to fit-in in the High School Scene. Having just coming from a totally different culture
was also a shock to me. But as a kid I guess you learn quickly, and fear was not a huge deal.
While High School meant differently to different people. My High School experience at American High was very
unique. It was an episode of my life that will never be forgotten. The friends that I met, the people that I encountered will be in my memory forever. American High School is instrumental in my childhood development, weather
positive or negative, I will always cherish my high school years as the most important years of my life (1988-1992)
One thing that I regret was the fact that my english was not very good in my Freshman and Sophmore years. Because of this, I hung out with kids that didn't speak so well, hence the reason that I didn't know many
of you in my same class. (but it's never too late right?) I always appeared "Spacey, or looking another way" bec...Expand for more
ause I was afraid that people would know I didn't speak english well.
In 10th grade, I found a new hobby in high school. It was Photography Class. I took alot of Photo/Darkroom classes
with Mr. Roman, in fact, I liked photo so much I had 3 years of photo classes and that was the biggest part of my
life. Why photo? FREEDOM. I enjoyed Ms. Roman's photo class so much because she was a really cool teacher.
Most of the time you spent time in the darkroom, developing films in the back room, then print pictures as I wish.
It was unlike most other classes where you sit in the class listening to lecture. With photo, I felt like I was so much
more immersed with the class. I enjoyed Ms. Roman's photo class because I felt respected in her class while doing
my favorite activity - printing pictures.
There were several other teachers that's worth mentioning. I took Mr. Jone's history class. I remembered Mr. Jones as a big tall dude with such passion in history. Also Ms. Adams the english teacher. She was pretty cool. Then there were Ms. Chin the science teacher, she gave me an F in science because I wouldn't dissect frogs. She made
me come after school in the lab, and finish all the frog related experiiments in order to give me a passing grade.
Ms. Chin, if your reading this, I wanted to say. THANK YOU, for giving me the chance to pass your class. I also remembered a PE teacher, Mrs. Hernandez, she retired and taught her last PE class. I was in her PE class, and I have to honestly say I was never there. I hated running laps, and whenever there's running involved, I'd cut her class. Besides running, I did liked other sports in the blass such as Badminton and Tennis, which I was very good at.
Mrs. Hernandez gave me an A in her class. Probably the only "A" I ever got in PE. On the last day of our class, she
told us that she's retiring and this would be her last class she teach. I still remembered this moment. I remembered when the class bell finally rang, I walk towards Mrs. Hernandez and gave her a hug and said good bye. It was
sort of a sad moment for me. For a moment I felt like II was missing Mrs. Hernandez's PE class.
**** THIS STORY IS A WORK IN PROGRESS, IT'S NOT FINISHED. I WILL ADD TO THIS AS I HAVE MORE TIME ***
Hey if you knew
me or just want to say HI, go ahead and do it. Don't be shy. I was not a very popular kid back in high school, so
you may not knew me back then. I have since moved to Seattle, Washington near Microsoft. Hey, I am looking
forward in getting connected with ya. See ya. AHS Class of 92 rules...
