Jason's Story
As a quiet well balanced young man in general. A guy that was very serious and never got into any kind of substance abuse and loved to participate in Track and Basketball. I can honestly say I have never been drunk, taken illegal drugs or been a smoker. Heck I do not even drink tea or coffee.
I always wanted to be an airplane pilot when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was not a realistic goal as I have poor eyesight and Pilots need 20/20 vision. As it turns out, they were right. Instead I pilot a 75 foot long, 8 1/2 foot wide 18 wheeler down the highways and byways of the USA.
The wildest thing I ever did in high school was participating in the dance-a-thon with Eleanor Littlefield in my Junior year. We stayed up all night dancing but went home early after going to basketball practice. We had a great time and helped raise money for the senior class.
I have lived in Worcester Ma, Belfast Me, Portland Me, New Bloomfield Pa, and now in Duncannon Pa.
I guess I am obsessed with the computer. Whether it be games, discussion forums, or keeping in touch with friends and family I use it regularly. Other than that I guess I am a workaholic. I do not believe the government will take care of me in my declining years so I must work hard now and invest as much money as I can now for my own retirement.
I guess I did not expect to be married as long as I have been. I kind of expected Kim to divorce me before now due to me being gone for weeks at a time. I married Kim Edson back in August of 1989, bless her heart, she has been tolerant, understanding, and supportive every step of the way.
I have learned from my kids that they are very needy and the more I give them the more they expect. Regrettably my daughters have not had a hard life and therefore they do not know the meaning of hard work or overcoming adversity. I believe they will have much hardship in the future when they can no longer rely on me.
Mr Vaughan was my algebra teacher. He was a kind and patient man as well as a good chess player. I enjoyed our games after class.
Well, If I won 100 million dollars I would look to my friends and family and offer monetary gifts to each to help them out. Anyone who was ever decent or kind to me would be remembered. Other than that I think building a rec center for local teenagers would provide a safe alternative to hanging out on the street corners. I would have a basketball court, and a couple of swimming pools in door designed for young kids and older ones. Make it family friendly with an exercise room, private showers, a snack area, maybe even a roller skating rink that could be used for dances once a week as well. A small movie theater for 2nd run movies would be cool too. I would provide a scholarship fund for underprivileged kids wanting to play sports in Belfast but could not afford the proper shoes. It would be administered by the athletic director at BAHS. The rest I would invest and save. Perhaps travel the world for a while using only the interest from savings and investments to travel so I could leave the principal alone.
To be truly happy I would be financially independent. I would surround myself with my close friends and share my fortune. I would travel all over the world enjoying the different cultures, sights, sounds, smells, and food.
My current age is 39. I have seen most of the United States from the cab of a truck and hope to travel the world before I die. If not with my current wife then with a suitable companion. Her health issues lead me to believe I may be finishing my journey without her but for now I will enjoy her company.
I work hard so that I may have a comfortable retirement. I am counting on living a long time and living costs money. Learning to live below my means has become second nature. Now that my children are pretty much grown I believe I will be able to max out my 401k contributions each year within the next 3 years.
Hmmm my first crush had to be Vicky Talbot. She was a red headed girl from Elementary school and very cute. Of course I was very shy and did not know how to relate to girls at such an early age so I made a mess out of it and became the butt of many jokes and teasing from my classmates. I learned to hide my feelings for fear of rejection. Of course I am beyond that point now and can relate to women very easily. I enjoy their company and try to be witty and funny which seems to be the key to becoming friends. ...Expand for more
Of course I only dated 3 girls throughout high school (Renee Ritter, Eleanor Littlefield, and Kim Edson) so I am definately no Don Juan!
My best friend would tell you I am faithful and dependable. Hard working and selfless. People who do not know me very well may consider me aloof and arrogant.
As for style I wear what is comfortable. Usually pocket tees and work pants or shorts on the job. Off the job is shorts or sweats and pull over shirts. I do dress up a bit when dining out. I keep my hair very short so it is easy to keep clean on my job.
As for pets, Kim has 3 miniature dachshunds that love to sleep with us in the bed under the covers. The males even try to jump in the tub with her. Of course they are very protective of her and even try to bite me when I get too close! Hot dogs anyone? lol just kidding.
I think the only trophies I have are a 1st place weightlifting trophy from the Brooks County fair back in 1988, a 2nd place state Javelin ribbon from the State track and field meet, and a 1st place chess trophy from way back in elementary school. Of course my mom and wife have a scrap book filled with newspaper clippings and articles from when I played sports and pictures of the teams I belonged to but those are stored away ina tote "somewhere."
If I could do something over I guess I would have applied myself more at school. School was more fun to me than a burden and I really did not work that hard to get good grades. Making the honor role was rather simple and I believe I only graduated in 36th place out of a class of 125 or so. I really spent too much time playing with girls and sports than I did on my studies.
In 10 years I hope to be financially independent. Through setting aside 20% of my earning each year I should have enough money invested in my 401k to retire with well over a million dollars (based on an average rate of return of 10% and my portfolio doubling in size about every 7 years that is). Driving a truck has really suited me personally and professionally as well as been financially rewarding.
I guess my oldest friend would be my wife. We both were the eldest of large families. Our parents were very old fashioned and strict when it came to chores and responsibility. We both were tasked with caring for our younger siblings and resented our parents for not letting us be kids and enjoy our youth. We found understanding and compassion in each other and have supported one another ever since. It was only natural that we would get married. To this day she is still my best friend and companion.
I am not sure anyone at my high school reunion would even recognize me at this point. I have gained allot of weight and although I am still very tall I do not have the athletes physique I had in high school. My classmates might be surprised that although I did go to college I dropped out after the first semester (I had too many holes in my education from moving when I was younger) and lacked the proper motivation and funds to continue so now I drive a truck for a living.
Lets see... my first REAL job was working at McDonald's in Belfast. I started as a closer, worked my way up to crew trainer, became an opener, and then finally a swing manager with different shifts each day. After attending BOC (Basic Operations Course) in Boston Massachusetts for my management training I was making a whopping $6.35 an hour with 2 kids and 1 on the way. The job was fun and I enjoyed working with my co-workers but the money was simply not enough to support a family on. I had to move on and decided to go to truck driving school.
I guess trying to make a movie with Brian Pussillo, Randi Moulton, and Susan Comeau would be a memory I could share. Susan and Randi had this school project for making a home movie. Brian had all kinds of video equipment and editing gear. I had a van and lots of free time so we all got together and started coming up with costumes and a screen play. Of course it was not very good but it was fun. I have no idea what the girls got for a grade on that project come to think of it.
I guess overall I have not really changed much. I still love to read books. I Love sci-fi and horror movies. Action adventure is another 1 I like. Other than that I travel the country and make as much money as I can. Kind of a solitary existence for the most part. Kim just recently joined me on the road this past November. She hates the job but is hanging in there so far.
