Howard Jay's Story
I’ve been married to Sally since 1970.. We have lived in the Katy area for over 44 years. We have a son who is a captain with the Houston Fire Department and construction company owner, and a daughter who is an assistant principal in Katy ISD. We have 4 grandkids. After graduating UofH, I spent the majority of my career in the banking industry. The last 28 years were with Preferred Bank in Houston where I started as a lender and was later promoted to CEO & President. I finally retired in January 2016 as Vice Chairman. I spend my spare time, which I now have lots of, training for and competing in triathlons, traveling, fishing and hunting. a, Hawaii. Update 7/20- I’ve been slow to post this update. I was probably in denial. For the last three plus years I’ve been trying to rehab my back so I could return to running and start competing in triathlons again. I have accepted the fact that no amount of rehab will work and nothing short of multiple operations will help (maybe). A maybe isn’t worth the risk and the recovery time. The docs have laid down the law, “no more running.” I had to give up swimming after shoulder replacement surgery a year ago, which limited my range of motion. On the bright side, I can still bike, walk, lift weights moderately, and climb up into a deer stand, all of which helps me maintain what little sanity I had before the back problems began. I’m just happy that at my age I can still stay active.
