Jayne's Story

After a long and eventful 35 years (!) since graduating high school, I now live in Sonoma with my husband and two boys, Will (almost 14) and Nick (almost 11). Yes, I started having kids late in life! I was 42 when Nick was born & expect to be in the home by the time he is dating. I didn't get married for the first time until I was 30 and STILL managed to choose the wrong guy ;>). We separated after 14 turbulent years when my kids were 5 and 3, and I moved with them to Sonoma where I am still living. I'm actually not married in a legal sense to my second husband, but we own a house together and I figure that much shared debt entitles us to tell people we're married. Right after college I worked in the state legislature for awhile, then started my own business in design & construction until I got divorced and the stereotypical financial train wreck hit. Spent about five years getting my life back together after that, and now own another successful business as a small business coach. I work from home here in beautiful Sonoma. I love my work, my kids, my town - life is GOOD. It was worth the wait! I haven't kept in touch with anyone at all - those of you who knew me back then might recall the teen years were pretty tough for my family when my parents had an ugly divorce. When I left Oroville, I left with a capital L & don't think I have come within 5 miles of town for the last 35 years. It was just too painful even though I also have some really fond memories of growing up. My mom has been b...Expand for more
ack a couple times and I think saw a couple of you, that's as close as I have gotten! But - for those of you who used to go to Y Camp at Gold Lake - a couple of years ago I started taking my family and our best friends there for an annual camping trip and that has been such a wonderful experience - it hasn't changed much at all and all of my best girlhood memories are there, which I now get to supplement with new memories. Sometimes in the quiet mornings up there I can almost hear Martha Stephens and me as little girls running through the woods, looking for kindling and pine cones for the big nightly bonfire - and I can remember Richard Wood and my brother Kevin arriving on visitor's Sunday with a watermelon and a birthday cake for Martha in me (I'm July 22 and she's July 24) in the back of a pickup truck - watermelon planted firmly on top of squished birthday cake ;>) Lately I've been reading a book called The Ames Girls - about a group of girls who grew up together and maintained their ties through adulthood. It's not that great a book but it did make me nostalgic for old friends. Checked in here to see who was around and just wanted to say hello to anyone who might happen past. Anyone know anything about Richard Wood or Doug McGie or Hector Reyes? or Tom Bone? I wish I could reconnect with Jimmy Cox and Dan Love...I see their pictures here but no registration...(why am I only asking about the BOYS??? hee hee - because I see all the girls already here!
