Jean's Story
Life
Right now I am fulfilling my dream of studying baking and pastry. I have wanted to do this for, like, five years. I am a total food nerd. You wouldn't have known this in high school because, as you may remember, I was morbidly shy (as Morrissey would put it). But yeah, I always was crazy about food and cooking. The California Culinary Academy is very hard. (When is school ever easy?)
Anyway i am not morbidly shy anymore so if I ever get to know any of you in a not morbidly shy capacity, that would be a happy thing!
Also I have two new kittens, Ziggy the Mutt and Zoe the Siamese. They are two handfuls. Love 'em. I am the biggest sucker for cats. Totally. I was only planning on one but my b-friend at the time got me two. They play and fight together. I had to potty train them. It's just like having human kids, except they are extra fuzzy and don't wear diapers.
College
I was still a little nerd in college (surprise!!! hahahahaha.)I went to City for longer than I should have and then transfered to UC Santa Cruz. I hoped it would be filled with far out people but it was so white bread! But I moved dorms and found all...Expand for more
the crazy SF style funky far out people and I was happy. And I became a little less shy in college...yes, having social skills is a good thing.
My major(s)?? Psych and Pre-and Early Modern Literary Studies with a concentration in Medieval and Latin Lit. You aren't too surprised, are you? ;) I also managed to squeeze in lots of Spanish and Latin classes.
Now I am studying Baking and Pastry Arts at California Culinary Academy. It's really hard, but it's what I really want to do rather than what I think I should want to do. I am not exactly corporate material, which is fine and dandy with me!
Workplace
Right now I am in the middle of yet another career change...I was sick for a few years after college and then I went into teaching. I taught English in Japan for a year...then 2 years in San Francisco (most of my students were Japanese). Then I decided to go into libraries...that was boring and there were no jobs. Now I am a student worker at my school--I work 8-1 in the morning and go to class from 3-10 at California Culinary Academy for Baking & Pastry Arts. I am always kind of spaced out...
