Jeanie's Story
Life
After graduation from high school, I attended Armstrong College in Berkeley, CA and graduated with an AA in Secretarial Admin. I was a member of Sigma Iota Chi sorority. After college, I got a job working for Kaiser Aluminum and then Kaiser Engineers in the Kaiser Bldg. by Lake Merritt. I moved into an apartment with Darleen McKinney, an Armstrong graduate, and this is where I met my husband, Bob, who lived in an apartment upstairs. We only dated for 5 months before we got married! I would be very upset with my kids if they did the same thing! I was 20, he was 21. We have been married 49 wonderful years, and both feel very grateful for all our years together. We have two children, a son, Randall (43) and a daughter, Jennifer (40). I worked until I got pregnant with my son and was a stay-at-home Mom until my youngest started college. I became a medical secretary/
bookkeeper when I returned to the working world. I worked at Brookside Hospital for 10 years as a medical secretary, plus worked for various doctors in the area. Both kids are married and parents themselves. We have 7 adorable grandchildren, 3 boys and 4 girls, all under 13 years old.
I had a small craft business for six years and painted decorative wood items for a booth at the Craft Patch in Vacaville. About 5 years ago, I decided to follow my dream and began writing a novel. I've finally finished the story, and it's over 500 pages! I've always loved to write but never took the time to give it a try. Now I have taken the next step and shown it to a professional editor. She had suggested I change my one book into two, so that is my current goal. In the summer we spend a lot of time up at our houseboat on Trinity Lake with our family. Life has been so good to me, and I am very grateful for everything in my life, especially my husband and family..
School
I attended Mira Vista Elementary School K-5, then attended El Monte Elementary School for the 6th grade. Portola Jr. High School for 7-8th grade, and Harry Ells High School for 9-12.

graduated with an AA in Secretarial Administration. I was Student Body Secretary and active in Sigma Iota Chi sorority.
Workplace
My first job out of college was with Kaiser Aluminum in Oakland by Lake Merritt. Then I worked for Kaiser Engineers until I had my first child in 1968.
I didn't return to the working world until my youngest started college. I first worked for Jan Halper, an Assertive Management Trainer, part time. Then I worked for different doctors in the San Pablo area for several years. My last job was at Brookside Hospital in San Pablo, where I worked as a medical secretary/office manager..
My work now is all fun. I am having a ball writing! I never dreamed writing could be this much fun! I've finished my first book and am currently working with an editor.
One person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Janet Elledge, because she was such an important part of my childhood. She was like a third sister to my sister, Diane, and myself. I haven't heard from her since my Dad died in 1981.
My current age is 69. When I was 12, I thought old people were boring. Boy, I was completely wrong! I have traveled extensively in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia/New Zealand, and I've met some of the most interesing people while traveling. I love traveling to new places, and my husband and I like to rent a car and just begin driving. The most fascinating things happen when you don't plan every step of your trip!
I write! When I'm writing, I totally forget about the things that are bothering me. It's a wonderful escape!
Another person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Tony Barbaria, because we were close friends all through high school. He had a locker near mine, and we always had fun teasing each other. He and I always competed with each other in class. If I got an "A" on a test, he'd beat me with an "A+." We actually dated off and on even after high school. I lost track of him when I got married, and I've never seen him at a reunion. He was one of the smartest boys I knew, and I'd like to know what a success he made of his life!.
