Jean's Story
Updated: Dec., 2011. I'm happily married, and my husband and I have two great teenagers. I still live in Northern Virginia. I worked for many years as a secretary, but now I'm back in school. I finally obtained my B.A. in English from George Mason University last spring. Now I am back at NVCC, trying to pick up some basic classes that I missed in the 2-year general studies degree from NVCC that transferred over the GMU. Before I return to GMU to student teach (I want to become an elementary school teacher), I'm required to take World History II, a Virginia Government class, a few more science classes (I took and passed Geology I at GMU), and all of my math classes. I just finished my online World History II class. If I passed the final with at least a "C" then I should get an "A" for the class. I'm enrolled to take an online meteorology class for the spring semester.
Although I sang with The Alexandria Singers for awhile (and performed in one play - as a wife in L'il Abner at Averett College), I don't perform much anymore. es). I can be found on facebook, along with some other classmates - Gary Eflin, Bob Blinn, Janet Day, Mark Standridge, Peter Breu, Joyce Whitehead, Mike Norris, Leigh Beach and more. I keep in frequent contact with Michelle Lecas, my best friend from high school. Athough I had an unhappy, dysfunctional home life as a child, I have fond memories of chorus, choir, Madrigals, and the plays I was in. Sometimes they were all I had to keep me going. That's one reason it's so important to keep arts in the schools. Often, it's all children have to give them a sense of value. Btw, Dr. Baxter is on facebook, too!!
I have especially fond memories of Dr. Costea, as well. When he became so ill, I tried to donate blood for him but I was turned away because I was anemic. He was a great teacher and a kind human being.
I miss Blair Standridge. He was such a nice guy. I felt so sad when he died. Later on, Bruce Bland - another very nice person - passed away, also. It seemed wrong. :(
But time marches on - and it has for me. I'm so grateful to have my husband and children, and I love working with kids. I try to give them the love and support my father so seldom gave me, and I get so much from them in return!.
