Jean's Story

Hi Friends, I've been reading your stories on line and am thinking it will be fun to get together next year for our 50th (gasp). We moved to Michigan in '77, and I've missed all the reunions since then. Most were in June when I was teaching, giving final exams/grades etc, and I just couldn't come. The bells stopped ringing for me when I retired in '04. No more lesson plans and correcting English assignments! Freedom! I miss the kids, but not the work, and I still get together with fellow teachers for book club, wine group, dining out, parties etc. Our school has a pick up band that plays locally and is lots of fun. What I most love to do is travel which I do whenever anyone will go with me. My bag can be packed within 24 hours, and that's usually what I'm doing the night before I leave. This winter I was in Arizona for a winter break. Sedona is gorgeous and I would love to return there for hikes. In July I'm going to France. Have been brushing up on French lessons. Whenever I try to Parlez Francais, I get a strange look and the person starts speaking Anglais! Hmmm. You all mention your pets. I have a chocolate lab/springer spaniel named George. He is nine and acts like a puppy. People have stopped saying...he'll be fine on...Expand for more
ce he's four, five, six etc. My son says I've created a neurotic. I tell him George has "special needs", my challenge since both he and his brother were so perfect. I have two sons, Bob(41) and Brian(39).Yikes! Neither is married. Brian has a girlfriend,so I am being patient and hope to enjoy a grandchild before I die. Bob works in OK, and Brian works in Battle Creek, about an hour south of here. Wonderful guys. Since I retired I've become addicted to gardening. Deer wander through my yard every day nibbling whatever, so it's been quite a challenge. I've taken courses at MSU and through the garden club, because I definitely need help and will never be an expert. Our local club plants and cares for gardens in our historical village. It's an active group, and we have many projects etc. I'm on the board so I get to help plan speakers/events. My husband Rudi died in '94 at age 51. We were married for 27 wonderful years for which I am grateful. Life challenges us all at some point, and we just make the best of it, go forward and keep smiling. How come none of you have posted your picture? Not one! I'm sure not going to be first. I suppose it will make reunions more mysterious. Who...are you? Who? Hope to hear from you. Jean
