Jean's Story
Life
I'm a native Californian and had lived there and in two foreign countries before moving to Virginia where I attended Jr. and Sr. High when my father was stationed at Langley AFB. My parents retired to California so I received my BA from San Diego State University and then went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for my MSLS (Master of Science in Library Science), so have been on both coasts since graduation from Hampton High.
I was a librarian at San Diego Public Library for a couple years before moving to Illinois where I was at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine at Springfield, then at the University of Southern California (USC) where I was hired to be Head of the Hancock Library of Biology and Oceanography in 1987. The Library was closed in 2003 and I joined the Science & Engineering Library but I have continued with the subject area. I also was lucky enough to be Curator of the Hancock Memorial Museum for two years - a very educational experience to learn about some fine arts rather than the sciences. While at USC I was promoted to University Librarian, the equivalent to Full Professor.

oth from USC. He is a software engineer and his wife is Canadian and a tea expert. My husband Bill is a former university professor who has retired from his consulting business and a local think tank that provided data for decision making by government agencies.
After about ten years of effort, I published a research data set of the Station Data of the Velero IV. The ship was a former research vessel of USC. I am still working on a history of the ship. I retired the end of January 2015 with the rank of University Librarian Emerita which allows my Dean to invite me back part time on a "Recall to service." Thus far, that has happened three times with very different projects.
I love to travel and see new places. Retirement has allowed my husband and I to increase our travel. We (sometimes with family, and sometimes just the two of us) are approaching a total of 40 cruises. We've visited nearly all 50 states (one to go!), and all seven continents. There is a long list of places we still want to see and many others we wish to visit again.
I made it to the 40th and 50th reunions but living on the west coast, it just isn't convenient to hop over to Virginia for more frequent visits.
Note that I do not do social media so you can't keep up with me on Facebook, etc.
