Jean Spurlin's Story

Life My Spouse We met on a blind date in January of my senior year (Thanks to Theda). We married two years later and lived in Dallas, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Abilene, El Paso and Little Rock before we decided the boys needed a home town and settled in Richardson, Texas in 1968. My Kids I have three sons, two married, and four grandchildren, three boys and one girl. Two sons live in the Dallas area, with the youngest in Spring, near Houston. The eldest, David, is a Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a large distributor of spirits and has a son and daughter, my second son is a policeman in Carrollton, Texas (unmarried), the youngest was married in October 2000. They now have two sons, William Blackwell Stuart II (born 2002) after Bill (my husband) and Colin Christian Stuart (born in 2004). I retired the end of August 2004 and am having a ball. My sister, Paula Spurlin Sisson, along with our 96-year old mother, embarked on a jew...Expand for more
elry-making business. We buy special glass of all colors and patterns, put them together in designs and fire them until the glass melts and fuses together. We then use gold-filled or sterling silver wire to make settings for them in pendants, bracelents, earrings, etc. We are mostly retired from that as well. My Job I was the Director of Student Information Systems for The University of Texas at Dallas when I retired. I supervised the student system programmers, giving a 'user' aspect to their responsibilities and served as liaison between the Student Affairs people and the 'techies'. Prior to that, I was Registrar for twelve years (and Director of Admissions as well for about nine). I loved my job, but the time always comes when you are ready to pack it in. And now I wonder why I didn't do it sooner! Bill died April 9, 2012. I'll miss him forever. And then a new chapter in my life - in 2018 with Benton McClure from class of '55. Who knew?

Visited Dad and put in new flowers. Blue was his favorite color.
Our last evening in Palm Springs. Beautiful weather, beautiful scenery, beautiful friends. On the patio at Arnold Palmer’s.

Choco and I missed national dog day. Better late than never. One of these days she’ll be a nice companion but right now she is an eight month old puppy that doesn’t know her own strength.

Our new family member, Choco the chocolate lab. Adorable. Smart.
Who can tell me what this is? It has an adhesive back and the ‘arms’ can lie flat. There are little knobs on the top outsides of the arms. Won it as a door prize.
