Jean's Story
I live in a suburb of Portland, Oregon with my husband Paul, our 4 weird cats (named Chili, Gilbert, Sullivan and Sylvester) and our Lhasa Apso, Tommy.
After Kenmore West I went to Buffalo State - didn't graduate (long story) and got my first job at WYSL Radio downtown on the 18th floor of the Statler Hilton.
I was the receptionist...then traffic person...then promoted to Copy/Continuity. It was a blast - went to concerts, went to Woodstock - and I still have my T shirt to prove it. (Remember WKRP in Cincinnati? kinda like that - I would've been Bailey the copywriter.)
Left after 18 months with my battle scars, went to work for JG Kelly Advertising as a media planner/buyer.
Then I went to work at WUTV - Channel 29 on Grand Island as Copy/Continuity Director. More fun - lots and lots and lots of work. Almost had to host Romper Room one day 'cause Miss Elaine wasn't in the studio when she was supposed to be. Thank God she showed up. I love to produce and do voiceovers but I do NOT like to be on air!
One night I got restless and called up WGR-Channel 2 and promoted myself for a job there. I worked as a PA on Bowling for Dollars for almost 5 years 'til it went of...Expand for more
f the air. OK - stop laughing.
Anyway, left there- went back into adv. as Media Director for Faller, Klenk and Quinlan. (didn't do well there)
Quit in January of that year and ended up answering a blind ad in the News. Found myself working for McDonald's Corp. as an Local Store Marketing Coordinator in WNY - eventually had stores in Buffalo, Rochester, etc. We did a lot of fun stuff...including getting the 2 new polar bear cubs for the Buffalo Zoo...marching with Ronald in the St. Patty''s Day Parade ... again, lots of work, lots of travel. My office was in Kenmore but my Regional Office was in Albany and corporate in Chicago.
After almost 4 years I burned out and took a job in - of all the Godforsaken places - Dallas, Texas. My 10 year relationship with another KenWest graduate bit the dust then - or rather, it whimpered to death.
Worked 7 months at a job I hated in Dallas - traveled 4 days a week to New England, New York State, Michigan from Dallas - even Buffalo! - took Christmas week off and got myself 2 job offers by Friday. Went to work at an ad agency in Dallas. I was hired by the man I'm now married to.
More later....I've been working a loooooong time!
