Jeanie's Story
I love to help people especially from other countries and have volunteered in Romania at a orphange/hospital for failure to thrieve children and in Greece at a hospital for the physically and mentally disabled. They both were very rewarding, but my Greece project is my favorite.
I have volunteered with refugees from Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Sudan helping them to adjust to their new life in the US. Some of those I worked with from Bosnia and Afghanistan have “adopted me” and I have become their mother and grandmother.
In my everyday life I'm a mother of 3 daughters, gradmother of 5 and great grandmother of 5. My youngest daughter is adopted and is medically fragile and my heart ❤️ and soul!

re transferred to Atlanta, Ga that is now home to me. I did not go to college until I was 37 years old. I started in 1987 and finally graduated in 1999 with a major in Sociology and minor in Psychology. Going at night was not always easy working full time, helping refugees and raising one of my grandchildren for 6 six years, but I was determine to finish!
I took early retirement in 2014 to take care of my husband who was very sick at the time and our adopted medically fragile daughter! My husband passed away in 2016 after battling Agent Orange medical issues from his time in Vietnam! I miss him very much!
I love to read, travel,do crafts, shop for antiques, work with special needs children and visit with my family! My current volunteer work is with infants and toddlers while their mommies learn English!
Peace! Jeanie (Thurber)
