I Always Wanted To Be A Firefighter When I Grew Up. I Would Walk By The Niles Fire Station On My Way To Grammer School And See Fireman Frank. He Would Yell At Us To Get Off HIS Lawn. One Day Many Years Later I Went to Engine 2 As Acting Captain, Put My Arm Around Frank, And Said " Frank You Know That Lawn Your So Proud Of? Get Your Ass Out There And Cut IT!!" We Had A Good Laugh, And He Didn't Have To Cut It. I Cut It For Him. I Do Miss Him. My Wife And I Enjoy NHRA Drag Racing Events. We've Gone As Far As The NHRA Hot Rod Get Together In Columbus, Ohio. d I Was 12 All Over Again. I've Had Wolves For 28 Years That Go Out Into The Public For Education as Well As TV. Our Current And Last Wolf "Takai" Is Now 14, And We've Retired Him As Of November 07'. He's Getting Grumpy Just Like Someone Else I Know! He's Been Painted By The Top Wildlife Artists In The World. If I Could Talk To Any Of My Old Teachers Again They Would Be; Mrs. Sorenson, 6th Grade. Let's Face It WE ALL Had A Crush On Her, But More Than That She Made Me Proud Of My Work For The First Time In School. Sorry Reed! Two Coaches At Washington High. Coach Ingram, And Coach Stelle. Not Only Were They Great Coaches, But Great Men As Well, And Treated Me As An Equal Not A Child. The Greatest Teacher I've Ever Known Was Mr Phillips At Washington High. His Love Of History And His Ability To Teach Was Uncanny. You Would Have Sworn That He Lived Through It Himself. He Was A Teacher In The 1930's CCC Camps. While Visiting My Parents In The Mountains Above Inskip, California Which Was Ten Miles Back On A Very Bad Dirt Road. We Heard Peoples Voices And Went Out To See Who Would Walk All The Way Out There And It Was Led By Mr. Phillips! These People Were Older That He Was, And Numbered About 25. He Was Teaching Them About The History And Nature Of The Area. The Year Was About 1975. He Took One Look At Me And Said Hi Gary! How's Dave And Frank ? My Brothers. I Miss Them All.
