Jeanette's Story

Life I moved to Arizona during the summer of 1997 -- when the temperature was a cool 127. Three of my kids came with me, while the oldest remained in California with his father. Since I injured my back a little more than 20 years ago (with a reinjury in '99), I've had quite a bit of trouble getting around and no longer am able to work. I try, however, to stay as active as possible -- which can be very difficult due to my limitations -- but I do what I can. I don't like just sitting around the house. I've kept myself busy supporting my kids in their activities. While in CA they were involved in martial arts, baseball, soccer, & baton. They continued going back & forth to CA for a while so that they could continue with their martial arts as long as possible. Here in AZ, they ran (& ran & ran) -- participating in cross country & track. My youngest son ran over 700 miles summer '05 alone & ran his first 1/2 marathon January '06, finishing in 1:41:19. They also participated in marching band, concert band, wind ensemble, regional honor band. FCA is another group which they were all involved in. My youngest was also involved with Key Club & NHS. In other words, they kept me very busy. All of my children have now graduated from high school -- classes of '00, '01, '04, & '06. My oldest son is attending Univ of Phx. He is looking into Religious Studies & to possibly go into the ministry. My oldest daughter went back to Boston in June '06 and in Dec '08 finished her classes at UMass, Boston. She received her Bachelor's degrees in both Criminal Justice and Sociology. She was on the track team & was awarded MVP for the Women's Indoor Track Team in '08. She's a member of Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society. She received her A.A. in Liberal Arts in '04 from the local jr college, but changed majors (which is why she went to Boston). My youngest daughter is currently attending Mesa Community College (AZ). She's already received 3 A.A. degrees there but changed majors several times. She's currently settled on Psychology wit...Expand for more
h possibly Sociology as a minor. She will more than likely transfer to ASU. She's considering the possibility of counseling (high school) as a career. She's an excellent cook! She's currently working as a floral designer & is the wedding consultant at the floral shop. My youngest son (& last child) graduated from Lake Havasu High School '06. I'm quite proud of him (as I am all of my kids). Even though he was extremely active in extra-/co-curricular activities, he managed to obtain a weighted GPA of 4.254 & was ranked #13 in his class! While he was attending high school, he also managed to accumulate 40 college credits from Mohave Community College (AZ)! He is attending Midland Lutheran College in NE, with a double major in secondary education (high school) and mathematics. He really likes all the complicated math. He's on the Cross Country/Track team, in the band, Circle K (board member), FCA, PBL-SIFE, he's an Anderson Leader & a member of Beta Sigma Psi (board member). He's a member of both Blue Key & Cardinal Key Honor Societies and on the executive board of the Senate. I have a new daughter-in-law as of August '05. She's been very good for my son & I, along with my other kids, just love her. Both she & my son are very active in their church. They have Sunday School classes that they teach & also help with some of the jr high/high school programs. My son also helps with the church softball team. They are still in Moreno Valley, California. So, now that all the kids are off to school (& one married), everyone keeps asking me how I'm doing. I'm doing just fine & am still keeping myself busy. I have a lot of things I need to catch up on. I've really enjoyed being with my kids & supporting them in their activities. Now, with them being spread out coast-to-coast, I have many places that I can go to 'harrass' my kids! The only problem is...that takes $$. You never know when deals will come along, though. It's kind of nice not having such a busy schedule. I now have a little more time to relax. Would love to hear from others...
