Jeanie's Story
Life
I am so blessed! I retired 9 years ago and have loved every minute of it. My husband of 38 years, Rusty, retired last year and we are now able to spend all of our time caring for our farm/ranch and enjoying entertaining and playing with our grandchildren. I have two grown sons, Brad and John, and 5 grandchildren, Katie, age 22, Kallie, age 21, Emily age 16, John Ian, age 12 and Will, age 9.
We have a farming operation in Southeast Shreveport and run approximately 100 head of Black Angus Cattle. There are about 75 calves on the ground that we will sell in the Fall and then it is time to cull the older cows, buy younger ones and new bulls. We raise Coastal and Summrall Hay to feed in the Winter. The first cutting of hay was last week and the baling will be finished ...Expand for more
soon only to be repeated (with God's help with a little rain) in 6 to 8 weeks. There is always something to do on the farm.
I got a new 4-wheeler for my birthday and I enjoy riding around the pastures, checking on the cows and calves and helping my husband as much as I can.
Everyone loves to come to the country so we have lots of company. The grandkids love to come swim and we do lots of outdoor cooking and entertaining. We love to travel but don't get to go as much as we would like to.
In the 1960's, I lived on a farm on Meriwether Road where my parents raised cows and farmed and I am still loving to do the same thing. I still like fast cars, remember, my Daddy had 2 Esso service stations and a wrecking yard where he fixed up cars, and having fun. I am so blessed.
