Jeanine's Story

I always wanted to do something with design in it, now I am with a twist-plants. I am a horticulturalist, speaking, educating, designing and consulting in the industry, I love what I do! I recently received my horticulture degree and currently working in the industry. I also am a Master Gardener and certified in landscape design, conservation, and land restoration. What I enjoy most is consult work with gardens, landscapes and land conservation and restoration. The wildest thing I ever did in high school was actually pretty lame, I wacky packed a bathroom stall. I found about 1000 stickers that I collect in 7th grade in my drawer that I was cleaning and decided to put them to use. At the time I was guess that I was bored and had to prove that I wasn't such a "goodie-goodie", ha! A lame "wild" thing to do, I agree. I have lived in Illinois most of my life. When I got married in 1984 we lived downtown until my husband was transfered to Houston, Texas. We lived there for 2 1/2 years before being transfered back. We bought a house in Western Springs and still live here today. We recently moved to a new house with a bigger yard. We plan to stay here for at least another 10 more years. We then want to downsize and maybe move somewhere near water. I enjoy watching "Law and Order" any gardening, landscaping, craft, knitting or animal shows. I also enjoy history and Nova programs and chick flicks. My biggest surprise is that I did not like the advertising industry like I thought I would. an be. I found the workplace a lonely place. What I learned from my kids is that I think my parent were the most wonderful parents. I now appreciate them so much more and now know what they went through. I also know that I am now having "not so much fun" with 3 teenagers. Some of my victories now is that everyone is happy and healthy. My husband and I are still married with life getting better all the time. My kids are pretty well adjusted, doing well in school and socially. My parents and brother/family are well and we see each other often with no drama, just good relaxing conversation and times. I have a few very good friends that I hang-out with, what more can I want. My personal victory is doing something that I am passionate about, working in the horticulture industry and working with animal shelters. My one do-over is maybe starting a family and horticulture/landscape design a little sooner. My oldest friend is Cheryl from the 3rd grade. We still talk and see each other. She has lived in Arizona for the past 35 year, but when we get together it is like time has stood still. I am amazed how we are so alike and still finish each others sentences. There is something to be said about having history with a person. I feel that my like has turned out well. I am always wanting to lose a few pound, and have more time. I do feel that so much has to do with your outlook in life and having a strong family and friend base. I hope that everyone that I have gone to school with at IHM is doing well and happy with their life. Jeanine Smith Camaren
