Jeanne's Story

2021 Merrie Christmas 2021 2022 Happy New Year Madrid, Espana Winter began the year leaving swaths of destruction in our neighborhood park. Trees and stadiums that could no longer support the weight of ice and snow succumbed leaving damage throughout the park. Spring welcomed new growth, and the joggers made their appearances. The park crews groomed the foliage and once again, everyone went outside. While José made the Covid 19 Vaccination call in February which was for the elderly, I got the April call. Pfizer was the vaccine administered to both of us. So far, so good. Year 3 has been checked off the calendar since leaving the US. We would prefer using our own transportation but have become accustomed to taxis and Ubers. Delivery is the easiest way of buying food; amazon.es online works to get everything—food, appliances, office supplies, personal needs. We finally got National Health care which covers everything except for prescriptions. José’s year began in the hospital with an undiagnosed illness from before Christmas through the first week in January. It took him until the end of March to fully recuperate. No, it was not covid. Santiago is talking nonstop, faster than we can understand—English and Portuguese at home, and Spanish at school. Impressive! He is 3 years old as of Christmas and in kindergarten. The highlight of 2021 will be the celebration of his birthday outside...Expand for more
the big city in a small village just north of here along with lots of family. My latest cooking toy is an air fryer. Almost everyday I use it. With so much time spent in lockdown, travel will be our way to escape. Once we arrive at a destination, then what? First stop, Finland. Woofs, Waggles and Woobles! Reporting from the hills of Madrid—elevation: 2188´; population: 3,223,000. Although I’m just an 8-year old pup (Border Collie) at heart, I live to chase frisbees, balls and doggie rings. The sound of a bouncing basketball stops me dead in my tracks when I am approaching the park or in it. Watch me run! I found a smaller ball which I adopted as my pet. Buddy is a mover and roller. He can stand still for hours or wobble on brick paths. He bounces on any surface until I retrieve him for his next adventure. We are constantly on the go. Sometimes other dogs (big and small) borrow my toys; so far all but one has been returned to the rightful owner, me. Back in January, I had overdone myself and had a seizure which lasted about 3 minutes. I awoke from it with dizzy thoughts I really didn’t know where I was, but I’m doing fine ever since then. Park pigeon report: lots of ’em. Magpies: they are big. Active, squawking green birds collect at the tops of trees and then take off. You would call them parrots. So far the parrots I’ve seen range in size from small to robin-size. Maybe next year they will be as big as magpies. Our wishes, for your good health during the holidays and beyond, Jeanne, José Lady Lightning
