Jeanne's Story

Life I will soon be moving to a new home in Middle Grove, NY - a granny flat over the garage of my daughter Katie and her husband Bill's new home! I married Gene Eddy in 1974, and we were married for more than 20 years. For most of my adult life, I've worked at Skidmore College where I earned my BA in 2003 in English Literature. I graduate May 16, 2009 from Skidmore's Masters program, currently completing degree requirements in women's studies and literature; my final project is a study of women's relationships in the kitchen and how they have and are changing with technology. As a serious baker, I get to express my creative side in buttercream and fondant, a sort of culinary evolution from the oils and watercolors of Mr. Izzo's wonderful art classes! Scones, cinnamon rolls, and muffins are also part of my regular repetoire. About my family - sadly, both parents are deceased. My father in 1993, and my mother in 2002. Siblings: Sisters, all in Saratoga: Patsy Britten (husband-Don, has 3 boys, all grown, one beautiful grandson, Matty, and two grandchildren due this June!); Ginny O'Farrell lives nearby and works for Marriott in Albany; Anne Bishop, a local realtor (husband-John) has 4 boys. Brothers: Michael, a medical technician (Albany), Steven, a veterinarian's assistant (Saratoga), Danny, IT (wife-Suzette) just moved back to Saratoga from the San Francisco area. Our kids: Jeff works in retail and lives in the Albany area. He is an accomplished amateur baker, sharing his mother's passion. ont, and waits for the snow to fly every year. He is an incredible artist, better than I ever was. Kate's an attorney in Glens Falls, and she and her husband Bill presented me with my first grandchild, Henry, in April '08. (He's amazing!!!) I look forward to living close to them! Our second daughter Meghan and our youngest daughter Tricia also live in Saratoga and both work at Skidmore in Food Services. They have a lot in common - they both design and create unique jewelry from semi-precious stones and metals, and often displayed by Mom, a proud advertiser of their skills! Personally, I keep too busy with too much, just like most women I know, and I don't get enough sleep, that's for sure. I like to swim when I have a chance. It's mentally and physically therapeutic! I especially cherish time hanging out with Henry!!! I am enjoying the freedom of life as the mother of grown children who have all become really interesting, unique people. Gene and I remain friends, enjoy being grandparents together. I am very happy to be in an enduring long term, long distance relationship with Russ Ebbets, someone many of you know, for many years. He's smart, funny, and I always laugh at his corny jokes! On hectic or challenging days, I'm reminded that there's so much to be grateful for, so much to look forward to. It was a pleasure helping to plan our 35th reunion. Staying connected to life-long friends is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves. Can't wait for the next one, and in the meantime, we locals will have 'mini' reunions every chance we get!
