Jeanne's Story

Life I got married to a guy from Ohio who was also in the Army and we had 2 children, Amber (born in 1979) and Dustin (born in 1981). Got divorced in 1983 (?) and then did the same thing all over again! Got married to another guy in the Army though not from Ohio. No kids. Divorced him and stayed single for years..Then met the love of my life (and current husband) Devin, who along with his great family, have lived in San Diego all their lives. We met at work & are going on 13 years of marriage! Still working together, Devin directs & I produce-our company is called 'American Dream Cinema'. Amber is living in Portland and graduated from beauty school 10/05. She is having a baby boy and is due any day now! Dustin spent 4 years in the Airforce and now is living in San Diego, works for the District Attorney and is a political science major at UCSD with future plans to become a lawyer. Three years ago we moved into a new house that has a view and we are thrilled! We added an office with a 14 seat theater and just finish a wine cellar addition. I got pretty sick in 2004, having a brain aneurysm that left me paralyzed on my left side for a couple of months, but I've completely recovered and according to my doctor can go on the wild rides at amusement parks again! Thanks for your kind words & cards! College I went to San Diego City College to get an AA in telecommunications. The Army paid my way (G.I. Bill) and I pretty much knew a lot of what they were teaching as I had already been working in the field so it was pretty nice to go even at 28 years old ???? Workplace While at Ft. Dix I applied for a civil service job in television and began working as a camera operator. (Good thing they had on the job training...Expand for more
!) I first learned to operate broadcast cameras on scripted and live shows, in the studio & in the field. Then electronics graphics & editing, then writing and producing. But I missed California so left my job and went to work at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital's education department doing all the stuff that required any audio visual support. From satellite conferencing to producing material for their closed circuit channel. Then I moved to San Diego where I worked as a freelancer in live broadcast sports and doing other television production. Now I'm mostly writing & producing commercials (could use some tips on my writing?) and I feel very fortunate to be able to work in a job that I've always wanted since I can remember. Military I went into the Army at the end of the summer after graduation. Did my Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina back when us ladies (girls mostly) were still WACs (Womens Army Corps). Shortly after basic things changed and we became "All Volunteer" making advanced individual training "co-ed". Yuck! It was weird being in another state with a bunch of folks from all over the place in one barracks. (We did have seperate floors!) I graduated as a personnel records specialist (because the vessel rescue off the coast of Florida job they promised me filled up) and was sent to the 1st Armored Division in Nurnberg, Germany. After 3 interesting yet HARD years in Germany, I was transferred to Ft. Dix, NJ where my enlistment term expired. I really learned a lot in the Military & overall enjoyed serving our Country, but at the time the Army was impacted with females as well as my field so without being offered an incentive to re-enlist I got out. I have to say that I'm really glad I did!
