Jeannette's Story

Life For those of you who will be reading my "exciting" biography I hope it will make you smile. First of all, the only reason I am writing anything is because this is the only way that I can read "yours". The schools that I attended were Riverside Elem., Ada Merritt JHS and Miami High. I married my wonderful husband Bruce in 1968 and then we moved to California. Bruce graduated from law school and my education is in early childhood development. We have 9 great kids, Julie 34 yrs. has a masters in Special Education,Jill 31 yrs. has a business degree,Bruce,Jr.(B.J.)29 yrs. works in construction, Michael 30 yrs. works for the state. Our 5th child Joy is 20 yrs. and was born with Down Syndrome. She swims, takes piano lessons, gets her hair highlighted, and loves going to Starbucks. Jenna is 15 yrs., and has Down Syndrome. We adopted Jenna when she was a baby. She loves to roller skate, and have her nails polished. We "thought" now that we have Jenna our family is "complete". Anyway, we kept getting calls that a baby was born with Down Syndrome and would we consider adopting another baby. Next came Jessica, our Angel Baby, sadly she passed away in 1992 she was 2 years old. Casey, is 12 yrs. and roller skates, swims, and loves karate and "earning" those belts. Our "baby" Amanda is 10 yrs. and loves to roller skate. And I can't forget to mention our adorable grandchildren Kevin 6yrs. begins first grade in a couple of weeks, he loves ice hockey and spends hours on the ice. His sister Jessica (named after our Jessica) is 2 yrs. and likes to roller skate. We live in a country setting (at least I feel I am in the country when I pull up into our long drive way...Expand for more
) not far from Sacramento. Our house sits up on a hill and we have gardens all around our property that I have named. There's "Jessica's Garden" which is a memory garden where we have statues of angels, a fountain, and mostly roses, a "Secret Garden", which is on the side of the house, "Dad's Garden" that has a firepit for toasting marshmallows, the pool area we gave a tropical look to remind us of Florida. In the front of the property I have an arbor where we have morning glories climbing up and around, I love looking at them when I do my daily walk. I collect Longaberger baskets and the Heritage Green Pottery. So, if you also enjoy Longaberger let me know. We own a Special Education School. While in high school I was mainly interested in "how my hair looked" not in academics, so it's ironic that years after graduating from high school that education became important to me. We were going to attend the reunion, but visited Miami in May. It was nice "going down memory lane" and seeing the schools that I attended, and especially the house where I grew up. Actually, the "real" reason that we didn't go to the reunion was that I was "afraid" that I would be in this room with all these people and not one person would "remember" me, isn't that sad?? Anyway, the 2 people that I sort of was in touch with and begged to come didn't want to, so I didn't go. My children kept urging me to go saying "Mom you have no trouble talking to strangers, you will do fine". So we will be attending the next reunion and the Las Vegas reunion if one is planned. In closing, I hope that your life has been as fulfilling and rewarding as mine has been. Keep your sense of humor always!
