Jeff's Story
After graduating from CDE in '66, I attended Penn State University as a Physics/Astronomy major from June, '66 to December, '67. I joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity there, which proved to be my undoing :o).
Jan. '68, I enlisted in the US Navy as the result of a draft notice upon quitting at PSU. In April, 1968, I went to boot camp for the Navy. Upon graduation, I was sent to Key West, FL, to attend the Navy's Sonar/Anti-Submarine Warfare School. Upon graduation, I received orders to the first of a new class of ocean escort ships, the USS Knox (DE-1052). I and my crewmates commissioned the new ship in Bremerton, WA and subsequently sailed her to our homeport of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Aboard Knox, I made two WESTPAC cruises to the far east, including two combat tours in Vietnam.
Upon discharge from the US Navy in 1972, I attended Harrisburg Area Community College for one year, obtaining my AA degree in Journalism. I then went to Syracuse University and graduated from the prestigious Newhouse School of Journalism in 1975 with a BS Degree.
After working briefly with United Press International as a photojournalist, I began a career with Nationwide Insurance which ultimately led me to upper management positions at their home office in Columbus, OH from 1980 until 2000. During that time, I served in the US Navy Reserves and rose to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
I was the Worldwide Education Services ...Expand for more
Manager for a major software company, Borland Software, in California until 2004.
I am now retired from Nationwide and the Navy. I'm now Academic Director - Veteran Affairs at the University of Cincinnati, responsible for assuring vets on campus are well advised academically, are taking advantage of their GI Bill benefits, and reponsible for recruiting vets to come back to college. I'm also an adjunct professor of computer science, teaching a variety of computer intro and programming courses. I own a 15 acre horse and chicken farm just east of Cincy, and have a Luthier (guitar/ukulele building) business. Loving every minute of it. My pure black Arabian stallion, "Trump" and my Paint Quarterhorse mare, "Paint" recently threw a beautiful paint colt, "Chief", with champion potential.
My father, Joe Bosworth, died a few years ago from complications arising from Altsheimer's. My mother, Jean, a retired 1st Grade teacher at Rutherford Elementary, still lives in in Lenker Manor, and is doing quite well. My brother Mark (CDE '69) lives on Devonshire Heights Road with his wife Emily (CDE '69), and my brother Scott (CDE '72) lives near Annapolis, MD, with his wife, Sue (CDE '72). Their kids are all doing quite well on their own with kids of their own, too. My Grandmother, Eleanor Willson, passed away in 2009 at age 104 in Sayre, PA.
I would really enjoy hearing from any of you out there, drop me a note...
