Music is such an intricate part of my life that it¿s difficult for me to imagine my life without it. At the age of twelve I pinned the lyrics to my first song, ¿There Was a Boy.¿ I remember that experience as if it were yesterday. I was attending a Christian school in Oakland, California at the time. As I walked into my creative writing class there was classical music playing softly in the background. The instructor explained to the students that their assignment for that day was to write the first thing that came to their minds. It was the month of December so I was inspired to write about the birth of Jesus Christ. I wrote what would become the future lyrics to my first Christmas song, ¿There Was a Boy.¿ At the time I was too young to understand that God was beginning a work in my life, He was introducing me to what would later become the calling and /or anointing in my life. As I matured spiritually, I begin to acknowledge and appreciate the gift of music. However, I was not sure what direction God wanted me to go in terms of using this gift for His glory. But what was undoubtedly clear was that with this calling on my life came great responsibility. So, because of the uncertainty of not knowing what direction to go, I decided the best thing to do was to wait; not always patiently I must add, for the Lord¿s unmistakable direction for my life. During this waiting period I experienced many blessings. I¿ve had a singing group, the Carnies for over twenty years.
