Jeff's Story
The "Now" photo is the most recent of me...post haircut. I used to have very long hair but could not care for it properly (only 40% mobility on the right). The "Then" picture of me is while at the 4th Golden Summer-night open air concert in Nürnburg, Germany in Aug 1981. I was a Private First Class in the regular Army.. I posted that pic since it is the only one I know of during that time period. There are none of me in high school.
Ahead to the here and now! I am now disabled (strokes in Nov 2015) and legally blind (diabetes). I was an IT Systems Engineer at US Strategic Command on Offutt AFB until Feb 2019. I had been doing federal IT contracting since Jun 2008. However, the State of Nebraska has relieved me of my driver's license as of August 2019 when I failed their vision test. I am in my 60s now and unable to work (can't see!).
High school seems so irrelevant now. I remember wanting it to be over so I could get on with life. I knew maybe 1% of the class and probably ...Expand for more
less that could be called friends. As somewhat of a pariah, I did not date. I wanted nothing to do with that scene. Further, I do not remember much about school and the day-to-day...stuff. Fremont is still my hometown and I do not regret growing up there.
For the moment, I live in the Ponca Hills of far northeastern Omaha. This is north of the Mormon Bridge (I-680) over the Missouri River. We've lived here since February 2008. Before that was a short stint back on Pershing Road in Fremont having moved my wife and son back from Schaumburg, IL (NW 'burbs of Chicago) in June 2005. Chicago-land was a goddamn rat-race full of hateful, money-grubbing people! I could not wait to get them out of there.
I am not sure of the future now. As I rewrite this, I am 61 years old, blinded (not "black" blind) and disabled. Not what I expected retirement to be. My health is in the crapper and I'd be surprised if I am around for the next (50th?) reunion.
Good Luck, everyone, wherever you are!
