Jeff's Story
Here's a brief update on what's happened over the years:
For the last 30 years I've lived in Virginia. This year will mark 25 years married to my wonderful wife. We have two children ("one of each"), and live in suburbia, about 15 miles outside of Washington, D.C.
How I got here:
After high school I attended Canton ATC for a year, took a year off from college, and then finished up at Plattsburgh State. Then some opportunities led me to Virginia.
My first 'real' job out of college was with the Department of Agriculture's Soil Conservation Service in a field office in eastern Virginia, a rewarding job where I literally spent 1/3 of my work time in fields! Those of you who've had experience with USDA people can understand that.
During that time, through some family friends, I met my future ...Expand for more
wife (she's originally from outside Boston, MA) who was working at EPA in D.C., at the time. We decided it would be easier for me to move and get a job at EPA than it would be for her to move and get a job in the rural area where I was living. I've been at EPA ever since, working in the hazardous waste program.
Living in northern Virginia is markedly different than what I experienced growing up in Mooers. For one, there are a lot more people and cars. There are many opportunities for children here with all the diffeent activities available, and we're just a short distance from downtown DC and all the museums.
The children are indeed growing fast. My daughter is in her second year of college and my son is a high school junior.
I do think this area is a great place to live and raise a family.
