Jeff's Story
Since Oakton I’ve lived in Denver, Lewsiburg, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, and now in the mountains of Asheville, NC, a place I’ve always loved. I went to college and grad school and started a chemical business 28 years ago, which I have to this day. I have two grown sons. My first, Alex, now works in Toronto and my second, Eric, is special needs and stays alternately with both his mother and me. Eric has always loved the rivers and we spend most every weekend during the summer rafting or tubing on the many waters of Western North Carolina.
Some of my strongest memories of high school include so many of the ridiculous things we did as males experimenting with the new world of approaching adulthood. Tommy Barret, do you remember that awful bottle of Cold Duck champagne we snuck out with? That was my first alcoholic drink. Do you remember the adult trying to chase us down in the middle of the night on Halloween for soaping his car? We hid in the bushes while my lungs ...Expand for more
were about to burst from running in tight jeans. I could go on for some time about Jim Donovan, but we all remember him in one way or another. He would tell the most hilarious stories that included bleeding on his prom date from some unknown cut. Doug Waters, where on earth did you end up? I’m not much into Facebook so I don’t track people down. Belinda Nielson, Betsy Coffin, Adrienne Karonis, Helen, Brenda, Becky, all these beautiful girls that hung out at the Mosby Woods pool. What a great place that was. We got a pretty good public education at Oakton, all things considered. I remember some great teachers there, also some very eccentric ones.
I’ve had occasion to meet some of you after 50 years and its interesting how instantly recognizable you are and how the relationship picks up right where it left off. How is that? Aren’t we supposed to change with experience and time? I’ll be 65 in December. In my mind none of you have aged a day. You’re forever young.
