Jeff's Story
Life
I moved to Franklin in the middle of the eighth grade, not sure I would ever recover from such a transition. It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me.
I have lifelong friends and a million great memories of being a Wildcat. I've written a book, "Once A Wildcat, Always A Wildcat" that was released November 26. It's a story about breaking away after high school and experiencing the world, but still responding to the call deep down in all of us about our hometown. It will be available at places around Franklin, on Amazon.com and JeffKirbyBooks.com.
I've been married to my wife Kim for 15 years, and we live in Springboro. My stepson Adam graduated from Springboro H.S. in '05. My daughter Chloe is an eighth grade cheerleader. I've been a lawyer in town for almost 20 years, and I've been magistrate in the Franklin court for 17 years, and in the Springboro court for 13.
School
We had such a tremendous school spirit when we were kids. Franklin had that for a few more years after we left, but then -- late in the nineties -- all that changed, largely because ...Expand for more
school levies kept failing. People moved away and good coaches left. In August 2005, on the advent of a seventh vote on the levy, I was part of a community rally that was held at the park. It was a prayer vigil for the levy, and for all of Franklin. At the risk of sounding melodramatic, there may not have been a Franklin High School any longer had the vote the next day not passed.
Then, in time, that Wildcat spirit returned. I remember attending a ceremony that recognized the new weight room at the high school; the cafeteria was packed. I was 45 at the time, seemingly so far removed from high school, and yet for reasons I can't explain, that night made me so proud to have once been a Wildcat.
I came home and started writing. The finished product is pretty good, with a moving story and excellent photographs, designed to renew that hometown spirit in all of us.
