Jeff's Story

While at Pioneer, I was one of two divers on the swim team (the other diver was Howard "Howie" Acosta, the short dude, did art and later became an attorney, if I recall correctly). In our senior year, I took up photography with my work on the newpaper and yearbook staff. After high shool, I spent about a year at San Jose City, then move down south to stay with my Dad. I went to Golden West College, in Huntington Beach and was going to be on their swim team, but at the last minute was disqualified because I moved out of my "home" district. I got a job with the Southern Pacific Railroad in '68 and was drafted in '69. I served in Vietnam, Ft Dietrick (in Maryland), and on Okinawa. I was in for 7 years, 6 months and 3 days (and loved every minute of it....NOT). I went back to Golden West College after that in '77 and made the swim team (at the tender age of 29), then onto Fullerton State. I took a job with Alpha Microsystems in Irvine in '79, started my own consulting business in '90 (which I still have, sort of). I took a full time position in 2004 as a computer programmer for Western Dental where I am currently. I met my wife (Her Majesty, Nancy) at Golden West the first time around and in November '08 we'll have been together 40 years. We have a son, Erik, two gr...Expand for more
andkids, Nick (17) and Kelly (15). I never did much with my photography until recently (I make some of my images available through my Scenic Settings web site). In the mid '90's I started reading (on purpose!) and began collecting Autographed and First Edition books. That grew into another side business (I started an on-line store called the Book Orphanage. The web address is hypenated). My politics for the last 25 or 30 years has been a bit right of center. I'm beginning to re-think that. My motivation for getting in touch with you all, is that I was looking for a guy I lived near just as I started High School. Terry Whisler. He was a year older than us and dropped out in his Junior year to join the Marines. I saw him after he got out in '69 just before I went to 'Nam myself, but never kept in touch after that. But then I looked at the list on Classmates and a flood of memories came back. I atteneded the '86 reunion and was there for part of '91. I never heard if there was one in '06. My brother told me about the Count V event in September this year. I hope I can make it to that. It'd be nice to see Ken again (ex-swimteam guy) and all of you. If anyone wants to chat, you can check the web sites for contact information. Or contact me through here at Classmates.
