George's Story
Life
After finishing school I joined Air force after electronics school I was stationed at Travis Air force Base in California. Spent three great years there. After discharge moved to Colorado to work with my father. Working in mines was not my plan. after a cave in underground I said it was deep enough and moved to Lake Tahoe Nevada. I went to work at Harrahs Club as a slot machine mechanic. With my electronic training I was very lucky to be at the right place at the right time. The year was 1960 During the last 45 years I have enjoyed a career that I would not change for anything. In 1973 I opened my first casino in down town Las Vegas small casino called " Mecca" Soon after it opened I was invited to a meeting with Steve Wynn and I spent the next 17 years with the Golden Nugget I left in 1990 at that time I was the corporate VP in the company with seven properties including Atlantic City. ned back to New Mexico and built a casino for Santa Anna Pueblo. I am now in Jamaica Where they are starting regulated gaming and I can still be a help. IN June of 2006 I left Jamaica and returned to Las Vegas. I am sorta retired And have finished 10 chapters of a book on Gaming. I am writing about gaming from 1960 through 2005 I am traveling to visit with people that I have met over the years. Writing about them and some of the experiences we shared. So you see I have had a great life as I hope all my classmates are enjoying today I only have a few regrets but many blessings I have three wonderful children all living in Las Vegas. I have lost two brothers all the other brothers and sisters are fine. I love to play Golf I owned my own plane And flew over much of the country that I love so much. Nevada has always been my home But Idaho is my love I hope all who take the time to read this know that I have never forgot my year in Elko and Hailey and I think of many of you often
