Jeff's Story

Life After high school I went to Clark to earn my two year degree with an intent to transfer. In 2001, I enrolled at Washington State University in Pullman majoring in history with an English minor. (I had wanted to do this since my freshman year at Pacific) All this time, I worked at the Coast to Coast store in Camas and at a couple of Home Depot stores in Portland. At WSU, I was active in my hall govermnent editing the monthly newsletter and spearheading several volunteer activies. I also joined the Cougar Marching Band and got to attend the Sun, Rose and Holiday Bowls. I became active in the Kappa Kappa Psi honorary fraternity and did other volunteer work for the band (if you go to Pullman and look on the drum major's box, I did the artwork on it). At Wazzu, I also discovered my passion for cooking was stronger than my passion for studying history, becoming a teacher and spending my career trying to convince a bunch of teenagers to care.. Good Food=Instant Satisfaction. I did a lot of cooking for myself and friends, and did a couple of Aebelskiever feeds for my section in the band on gamedays. In 2004 I left WSU and spun my wheels at Clark for a quarter, deciding to enroll in the Culinary Arts program. I graduated from the program, earning my Associate of Applied Sciences in Professional Cooking and Restaurant Management in August, 2005. I interned at Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City, Oregon, hoping to network with local food people and eventually find work in the Eugene area, since I wanted to return there to live. in October, 2005 I became a cook in the service deli at the South Eugene Ma...Expand for more
rket of Choice store (Think of it a a cross between Wild Oats and QFC). I currently live in Junction City. I am no longer active with the Boy Scouts, but my level of participation with the Junction City Scandinavian Festival has grown in the past three years. In addition to continuing to perform with Skandia Leikarringen Folk Dancers, I became an assistant director of the Scandia Children's Dancers (where I got my start) in 2003. In 2004, I went on to the Board of Directors and I am now in charge of maintaining the grounds and building maintenance, in addition to designing the cover art for the Events Program. I've attempted to take up golf, with limited success. I think I'll get it someday, but for the moment, I make most hacks look like Arnold Palmer. Oh well. Guess that's all for now. Pretty fun, eh? Contact me through the Message Boards here if you like, and I'll update this if I ever need to. :-) UPDATE: No longer cooking, the money was just crap for what I was having to do. As of May 2007, I am working at the local True Value Hardware store in JC. I run the paint department (surprise!) and I do other merchandising projects around the store. UPDATE #2: Am currently in field sales for Jensen Distribution Services, a hardware distributor based out of Spokane. I still live in JC, but I travel all over western Oregon and northern California. This has forced me to give up the Children's Dancers for now, but that may change in the future. ;-) I am still on the Board of Directors, however, as Second Vice President , and as President Elect. Yes, in 2009, I'll be the President of the SFA. Exciting, eh?
