Jeff's Story

Life Well let's see.....I've been in the Navy over 20 years and it hasn't been bad at all. Matter of fact I have no regrets. I've been all over Europe and seen a lot of things that I never imagined I would. It seems I started this journey from the east coast and gradually came west. I'm currently in Hawaii and who knows where I'll go from here. I sometimes sit back and think about my first job...Napoli's Pizza...and kind of wonder how the people I used to know are doing. I've been back to WV quite a few times and visited many friends from the past but it seems life rolls along rather quickly and I've lost touch with some of the people that were close to me. Anyway I would love to hear from some friends of the past. Drop me a line if you like. School Ahh....there were a few girls I admired and I'll leave it at that. As for doing it all over again, I don't think so. Workplace My first and only civilian job was working at Napoli's Pizza. I got fed up with it after a few years and decided to join the Navy. I've been to sea and on quite a few deployments but I think the best job I've had while in the Navy was working for President Bush SR. I was stationed at Camp David in the early '90's and it was an experience I'll never forget. I met a lot of dignitaries as well as famous actors during my tour there and I also learned a lot about electronic security systems. The Navy's been very good to me and I've experienced a lot during my 25 years of active duty. I've had more education that I never even dreamed about, made countless friends along the way, and have experienced more heartache than anyone should in losing friends and acquaintences in my journeys. But, as they say, it's...Expand for more
what we came into this organization for and it's what we sometimes expect during difficult times. I plan on retiring next year and settling down. I have a young family and I want to be there for them to watch and help them grow into their teens and onto their adulthood. I owe it to them and love them dearly, as a father should. I also want to be there for my wife too. She also deserves it as she's had the hardest job as a Navy Wife. She's taken care of the house, bills, and everything else while I've been away doing what I'm paid and exected to do. But the most important thing she's done is take care of our wonderful kids. She's played both the mother and father many times over and has always been there for me when I've needed her. So now it's her turn. I'll be there for her and our beautiful kids and not have to wonder when I'll be leaving again. Wow...kinda got carried away :) Military I went to the Navy boot camp in 1984 and reported to my first ship after schooling. I work in communications and electronics and have been on more deployments than I care to remember. I suppose the good things that have come from that are the wonderful friends I've made and the places I've seen. Can't forget about all the schooling I've had at the Navy's expense either. The military's not for everyone and like any job it has it's ups and downs. But being on active duty for about 24 years has made me see and react to things differently than a civilian I think. For instance, seeing friends getting severly injured or even killed. Yes it is very sad and yes I do grieve but not at the moment it happens. Reaction is first then when things settle down it hits you and then things are so surreal.
