Jeff's Story
Life
I am the married father of two wonderful boys. My wife, Lisa, and I live in Alpharetta where Lisa is a family practice physician and where I work for HP. My two wonderful boys are Griffin and Chance. They love soccer, basketball, Legos, video games and biking with dad. I also have a stepdaughter, Riley, who is very busy with Girl Scouts, basketball and lacrosse.
I absolutely love the outdoors and I am an avid mountain biker. I spend most of my free time either working out, riding hard on the bike trail or doing just about anything outdoors. I also love spending every fall watching my beloved Auburn Tigers play football. War Eagle!!!!
School
I didn't ever really do too much in high school. I wish I would have studied harder and done more but maybe that is what makes me such a driven person today. I guess there were two teachers in particular who pushed me to the point of allowing me to see for myself what I was truly capable of and they were Mrs. Coble and Mr. Faircloth.
I did loose one of my very best friends from high school in October of 2001 and that was Steve Averett. Steve always had a huge smile on his face, something funny to say and had an entrepreneurial spirit. I believe that everyone who knew Steve would agree. Other friends from high school that I still talk to/email occasionally are Alan Hastings, Daryl Mizell, David McDermott and Melvin Witt.
College
I attended the University of Georgia from fall of '85 thru winter of '87 before transferring to Auburn University. I graduated from Auburn (War Eagle!!!) in '90 with a B.S. in Management Information Systems.
Like many of my peers, I was on the five year plan. My favorite memories of college all involved fall quarter. The football games, the frat/band parties and the excitement of just being in the middle of it all was electric. I spent those years enjoying all of the fun but I was dying to get out of there in search of "making a buck". Now I go back during the fall for football games and get a huge sense nostalgia. I never knew how good I had it back then and now it takes weekend treks back for football games to re-e...Expand for more
xperience that feeling for a few hours.
My only hobby during college was training for triathlons. I spent every waking hour my junior and senior years swimming, biking and running my butt off!!! Completing each triathlon was such a great sense of accomplishment. It was a relatively cheap hobby with one exception: the bike. I can remember my dad went nuts when he found out how much I spent on my first road bike. All I can remember is him telling me, "Son, I could have bought you ten Huffys down at Wal-Mart for what you paid for that one Trek!"
My only occupation during college was lifeguarding. During the school year I lifeguarded at the Auburn University pool and critiqued all of the lap swimmers' strokes. That was about as exciting as watching paint dry. During the summers, I lifeguarded at the base pools on Robins AFB. I was fortunate enough to work with some wonderful people during those summers. David Veal (NHS), Rab Wilkerson (WRHS), Michelle Van Atta (WRHS), Stacey Boone (WRHS), Chuck Baima (WRHS), Keith Lewis (NHS), Gerome Geautreaux (Mount de Sales HS), and many others. Who knew that the human body could survive, even thrive, on being hung over seven days a week and sitting in the sweltering middle Georgia heat for hours on end?? And to think that everyone of us grew up to be respectable, productive, successful members of society. My college memories are some of my fondest memories.
Workplace
I currently work for Hewlett-Packard (HP), in Alpharetta, GA selling software. I have been in software sales since 2000 and I love it. I could not imagine going back to working an 8 to 5 job in an office environment. It is nice to have a real office, a home office, and my favorite office...my local Starbuck's. Thank God for wireless networking, T-Mobile and my trusty BlackBerry!!! The freedom and flexibility that my job offers are the most appealing aspects of life in sales.
The only downside to my current job is the amount of travel that it requires. The upside is that I have been fortunate enough to see alot of the world on my company's dime. The frequent flier miles aren't bad either.
