Jeffrey's Story
We moved to Scotts Valley, California (approximately 75 miles south of San Francisco, between San Jose in Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz on the coast) in 1987.
Retired since 2011, I've been doing a variety of volunteer and non-profit activities. In early 2022 I was appointed to the Board of Directors for the San Lorenzo Valley Water District, to fill a vacancy. In November I was elected to a full term of office in that position. I spent two years on the county sheriff's citizen advisory committee, and a couple years on the City of Scotts Valley's general plan advisory committee. e here doing marketing and product management for venture-funded high-tech start-up companies. Chances are, I wrote the specs or did the marketing for a computer storage system that has held some of your personal records somewhere. Silicon Valley employment is a bit like riding a tiger...fast, powerful and exciting, but it can turn around and bite you too.
Karen and I have been married since 1971, and we raised two sons. Both are in the computer industry, one in Denver and one in Seattle.
Scotts Valley is a very nice place to live. There's about 11,500 people in a forested mountain valley, lots of Redwoods, Ponderosa Pines and Douglas Fir trees along with small-town atmosphere, but only 25 minutes from San Jose and 10 minutes from the beach on Monterey Bay.
