Jeffrey's Story

Life I'm married since '74. A daughter and two sons born from '82 to '86. Daughter is a regional director of the CT Humane Society, oldest son is travelling with a band, youngest son an engineer. After flunking/quitting out of Stony Brook in '66, I became a hippie for a few years. Following some well-publicized trouble with the law over marijuana, I went back to Suffolk Community College, then got an A.A. from Dutchess Community College (while in prison), an A.B. from Vassar College, an M.P.A. from Princeton University, and a J.D. from Yale Law School. I practice class action law in mid-town Manhattan representing shareholders and investors against public companies and emplooyees and consumers. I live in Westchester County on the Hudson River, where I also sail when I find the time and am still renovating my house originally built in 1740, once owned by Clement Moore (of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas fame) and where Robert DeNiro and Dakota Fanning made a movie, Hide & Seek, that was released in January '05. I also have a place in Puerto Rico on the Caribbean that I love and where I own part of a small scuba dive boat operation. School Four high schools in four years. Go figure. I remember mythology and print shop from Mineola; a practical joke gone badly awry in Odessa; great English grammar and geometry in Bethpage; great physics and world literature in Port Jeff. It was a bit of a wild ride with some good friends, at least a couploe of whom I still see. College Started as a physics/math major who didn't want to be in school. That cured itself with academic probation suspension and a mid-to-late 60's stint as a hippie and drug convict who earned an Associate of Arts degree in p...Expand for more
rison. I was 25 by the time I got out of jail, got serious about college, and went back to finish my A.B., M.P.A. and J.D. It all made a lot more sense the second time around. I also met my wife there, which also made a lot of sense. Workplace Many odd jobs before finishing college. Teaching and research jobs during graduate and law school. Two lawyer jobs since then - a three year, very unsatisfying stint representing corporations (although at a firm and with people who I thought were great), and 32 mostly very happy and satisfying years now suing corporations and corporate managers who violate the laws designed to protect investors, consumers, and employees. True to my 60s roots, I am much better suited to suing corporate merica than I was to defending it. Volunteer Workplace Since getting out of law school I have served on the board of a large organization that works with prisoners, ex-convicts and their families to try to re-intergrate offenders into society and reduce the collateral damage of our excessive reliance on punishment to solve social problems. I now chair the organization. I also serve on the board of a community college foundation that raises money for scholarships for students to help them afford thier education. I also serve on an environmental advisory council in my village that provides formal advice to village agencies on environmental matters. Hobby Workplace I have a scuba dive business in Puerto Rico with a partner. We are called East Puerto Rico Diving and our dive sites range from just off-shore in the Caribbean over to Vieques Island. Military Earned a 4F classification over my marijuana arrest -- morally unfit to kill people in the name of the USA.
