Jeffrey's Story

Life Greetings fellow West High School Graduates! I graduated from West in 1983 and went on to El Camino Community College. My main interests were in English literature and art history. In 1985 a disruption in the family caused me to alter my college plans. It would be another eight years until I earned my B.A. I moved to Iowa in 1991 and continued my education at the University of Northern Iowa. From that university I earned my BA and then an MA, both in Sociology, and a BFA in printmaking and graphic design. I married Chikako in 1996 and we conceived a beautiful daughter, Amy, in 2001. We currently reside in Waverly, Iowa where I am employeed as an assistant manager at Hy-Vee supermarket. My hobbies include running, art, reading, backpacking, canoe and kayak trips, and enjoying my family. I like Iowa, but there are times I miss good ole' Torrance. I recently went back to Torrance in 2005 and 2006 and was surprised to see that West High pretty much looks the same now as it did when I went there 1980-1983. For instance, the information sign out front on the corner of Victor and Del Amo Blvd. is exactly THE SAME one! Now it's rusty and old looking. I think they need to get an electronic message sign instead. Time to update. However, the buildings look well maintained and freshly painted. My class of 83' friends at West were David Ladre, Ray Yoshida, Jeff Stieglitz, Steve Culver, Kenan Aslay, Aaron Hayashi, Tony Riganti, among others. I remember being involved in the simulations game club and dabbled in photography. We all enjoyed AD&D, but when I graduated I ceased playing that game. When I was at West, my hobbies were collecting old baseball cards (1950's-70s), Mad Magazines (all of them), stamps, and coins. After West I stuck with the Mads and stamps for a while, then went on to reading and making art. Years later, when my daug...Expand for more
hter was born I ebayed most of my baseball card collection and financed diapers, rash cream, and various other baby needs. I have all the cards I auctioned off on zip disc, so, in a way, I still have them. Visually. However, since I am now a homeowner, I am currently involved in home improvement projects when not at work. A new driveway, a rebuilt garage, working on finishing the basement, putting in egress windows and a bathroom. Fun, fun. I like movies, usually action dramas, period pieces, and the occasional comedy. Also, well-acted and produced television like the Sopranos, Lost, or 24. Thing is, I am so busy that my schedule usually does not permit me the causual time to view such programs when they air. I do not have Tivo, so I rent or buy what I want to see. I bought season one of Lost, saw the Sopranos from rented DVDS, and then went to the library to see season one of 24. I am rather behind the times as I await season 2 of Lost to come out on DVD. I missed all episodes during their original air time. Work, or Japanese TV via satellite dish took precedence. Oh well. Lost season 2 comes out this September. Well, let's see, what else should I divulge? I was somewhat of a joker in high school. More on the weird side of humor and some enjoyed it and some did not. As with anything, there are people who feel being serious is the way to be at all times. Not with me. So it goes. I have not been to any reunions as of yet. Maybe the next one. Thing is, why is it at places with bars that take the destination prize for this sort of thing? And golf... I once hit a bucket of golf balls some ten years ago and almost all curved wildly as they were hit. Never again did I get near the game. There was a 401K consultant who once said: I would be retired by now if it wasn't for all the golf I played. Ahhhh, interesting bit of news... and advice.
