Jeffry C.'s Story
After graduation, I went to Indiana Central College (University, now U-Indy) to major in Music Education. I met & married my 1st wife while there, but ran out of money & left Indiana Central. I took some jobs as a substitute teacher, where I found that teaching wasn't for me. I did a number of jobs (retail, warehousing, etc.) & ended up at RCA Records, where I later began as an apprentice Machinist. Unhappy at the idiots in charge at RCA I joined the Army (as an Armor crewman) right at the end of the "Great Ice Storm" of Jan '78 & spent 5 1/2 yrs. at Fort Knox, KY. I was picked for a very high-level experimental tank gunnery project. In '83 I was stationed in Fulda, (then West) Germany in the 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry. I was divorced & then a couple years later I met & married a wonderful Scottish lass, Billie. I was sent to the Army's M1/M1A1 Master Gunner School & graduated as the Honor Graduate of my class. Right as the 1st Gulf War began heating up I was transferred to Fort Riley, Kansas in Headquarters Troop, 4th Armored Cavalry. I was the (acting) Platoon Leader, then as the (actual) Platoon Sergeant of all the 4th Cavalry M1A1 (Heavy) tanks. After Desert Shield became Desert Storm, I led the 1st platoon of Coalition tanks into Iraq & Kuwait. A little more than a year after Desert Storm I left the Army thanks to budget cutbacks. I worked as a truck driver, then as the Indiana Manager of City Transfer Service of Detroit but based here in Indy. Great job, but not enough ca$h...Expand for more
. I began a 10 year stint as a Mailman at the US Postal Service. In 2001-02 I also had a great part-time gig at Popguns here on the East side of Indy. In 2005, my ailments brought about by the "Desert Storm Conditions" (Disease) ended my walking career at USPS so I medically retired. I've been retired since then.
Billie & I have now celebrated 32 years together earlier this year. (2019) All in all, we have 3 kids:
Dr. Janelle Bailey-Lombardi; a professor & astrophysicist at Temple University (Philadelphia, PA)
Gareth Lowry-Bailey; Sales Manager at Zore’s Towing in Indy, and
Samantha Bailey
We have 5 Grandkids, a black cat named Spooky & a mortgage. What more could I ask for?!
I'm extremely proud of my time at JMHS. Mentally wandering back to those days on the parking lot with the Awesome Marching Patriots Band or on the football field as JMHS' 1st Drum Major reminds me of how far we have all come but it also makes me realize that things seldom go as planned but if you make the best of your life, happiness can be yours. (If not money!) It's been a great run!
Oct 27, 2019: Sadly, my wife, Billie passed away due to Mesothelioma lung cancer. My adult daughter Sam and her 2 cats, Beastie & Gus-Gus now live with me. We have a new puppy named “Noodle.” She is a Morkie (a cross between a Maltese & a Yorkie) and is FULL of energy. Billie actually named her a few days before she passed away.
