Jeffry's Story
Life
I left Haslett in 1960 to attentd Alma College in Alma, Michigan. I recieved a BA from Alma College in Business in 1964 and went on to attend the Graduate School of Business at MSU in East Lanisng, MI. In 1965 I married Suzanne Malpass of East Jordan, MI. I went to work for Price Waterhouse & Co in Battle Creek, Michigan in December of 1965. I worked as an auditor and passed the CPA examination in 1969. Our two sons were born in Battle Creek. In 1971 we moved to Highland Park, MI where I worked as an appointed official of that City. In 1975 we moved back to Alma, MI and I went to work for Bank of Alma as Vice President and Controller. In 1981 I was elected President and CEO of the Bank and in 1984 I was elected President of Firstbank Corp a onebank holding company created to own the Bank of Alma. In 1986 I embarked on an indivdual accounting and investment management practice. In 1993 my wife and I moved to Sanibel Florida which soon proved to be a big mistake for me. In 1996 we moved back to Northern Michigan and now live outside of Suzanne's hometown of East Jordan(actually we live closer to Ellsworth). Our sons are adults, both of them are married. the Department of Humanities and a Professor of Communications at Walsh University in North Canton, OH. In September of 2008 Matt and his wife had their first child and our first grandchild. Lucas was born on September 30. On December 9, 2008 Mark and his wife had their first child, Susanna Ruth. So we now have gone from 0 to 2 grandchildren in a space of two months.
We now also have a home in SE Arizona where we spend the winter. I am usually in Michigan two or three times during winter, but Suzanne and the dog remain here. I am still involved both in accounting and the community. I presently serve as Vice Cahir and a Director of the Charlevoix County Community Foundation and as Chariman of the South Arm Township Planning Commission. I am active Kiwanian for 34 years. I have just stepped down form service the Kiwanis Club of Charlevoix as Treasurer for the past 7 years.
I still get to Alma often as we lived there for 18 years. I will probably not get to Haslett as much as we had to move my Mother into assisted living in Cincinnati where my brother Brisn resides.
