Jeneane's Story

Life Hi everyone, I can hardly believe how long it is has been. I've been in Texas since 1986 and I do like the wide open spaces and no winters but hate the summer AC bills, especially with the recent hikes in electricity. I've been married for almost 18 years now in May-geez! Mike's wonderful and I consider myself very lucky. He has recently finished his second specialization and is now a license specialist in school psychology. He really enjoys working with kids. We've got 3 kids and our household is very busy because they are special needs kids. Nick is 13, Samantha is 11 and Beth is 9. We are busy with scouting, school and music activities. With special needs kids, I guess the nursing career came in handy afterall. My mom and brother are still in NB so I still hear tidbits about the ole neighborhood. I work as a RN on the weekends with people that have mental health and chemical dependency problems. I am fairly active with advocating individuals with Autism since my Sam has this condition. I am thinking about some volunteer options but things keep coming up. Believe it or not at my ripe ole age I have started to take up piano and have been playing now for a couple years. I do occasionally have the delusion I can creatively write short stories and novels. I love reading and I am regular in Barnes & Noble, Borders and Half price Books. If they don't see me every two weeks they send out a search party. I crosstitch when my neck will let me and dabble in a bit of jelewry making. I am trying to improve my health and lose some weight so I am into Atkins/walking. My h...Expand for more
usband is a amateur musician (CheckeredPastband.com) and so music abounds in our home. The band has recently lost some members and gained some new talent. So they are in a re-grouping phase. This summer Mike and I are into home improvements ( courtesy of Ike. Hopefully all will be well and we will avoid the emergency room. Send me a note via e-mail. I still keep in touch with several girl friends from NB. I email regularly several folks from Class of 80 and 81 folks from California, to NY, Conn and NJ. I would love to hear from you. College Spent 5 years at Stony Brook and 2 of those being in Nursing school. I met some absolutely wonderful people there and I regret not keeping better in touch with them. Nursing school gave me some wonderful skills not only for traditional nursing roles but skills that translated over well to the business world as well. I also believe my involvement with the peer counseling center was great too. Although I have worked in Psychiatry for the last 23 years I am considering a second career. Any of you SB especially college of Nursing guys out there please e-mail me. Thanks Workplace I have been a nurse since 86 and generally I enjoy helping others however my tolerance of hospital politics and its dynamics is pretty low and thats why I work on the weekends. Plus it helps with my special needs kids to be available during the week. I do like working for businesses like managed care because I think they treat nurses better than hospitals. I am thinking about some volunteer possiblities or starting a different speciality like school nursing.
