David's Story

Life After high school, I decided to gain work experience by cleaning bathrooms on the old Ohlone College campus. Everything looked up after that. I attended UC Santa Cruz on a full scholarship and earned a degree in Biology. I was offered a chance to do graduate work involving E. Coli, but opted for a four year program at Sears and earned extra cash as a stand-up commedian. Those experiences lead to a very funny but short marriage. My technical abilities drew me to the high-tech explosion of the early eighties like a moth to light. The result was a seventeen year career teaching adults from all over the world how to avoid electrocution in their own search for riches and power. After my fifth layoff, I was given the opportunity to teach Biology and coach football at a private high school in San Jose. It's a natural for me. So I'm quite happy. I have also been fortunate enough to meet and mary a wonderfully funny and feisty woman, Nancy, from Massachusetts. She has blessed me with a family of girls, an epileptic dog, and gay cat. It's a good deal. 4/11/08 My oldest step daughter is 24 and married and living in Phoenix, my middle step daughter is all set to graduate from San Diego State and start working on her masters, and my youngest is 10 and taller than most of you. Nancy, my raison d'etre, spent last year fending off an aggressive form of breast cancer. Luckily, the chemo was more successful at eliminating the cancer than my wife, but it was close. She's back at work, cancer free and telling me how to clean the cat bo...Expand for more
x. As for work, I'm now teaching at Cal Hills High School in Milpitas with the greatest staff in the world. It's a continuation high school and I seem to have a knack for herding those cats. I was also given an opportunity to excel as their Athletic Director. Keeping those athletes eligible has become the ultimate test of my mind-body continuum, such as it is. I have also been coaching football for the last six years and spent two seasons at Washington with Ken Wittmer. I'm now coaching at Irvington (my neighborhood school) with all the former Washington coaches that cut their teeth with Coach Ingram. They're a great group. So things are good. How's it going for you? Let me know. and let's get together this October. I mean, how can you lose? The party is at Smythe's winery! Peas. 6/29/14 I'm still for peas. We now have one grandson and a grand daughter on the way. I have had to slow down a bit, but that has allowed me to write my coaching opus (available at amazon!). I'm still coaching football, and my Nancy is healthier than ever and still telling me how to live. My youngest daughter, Kristiana, is doing doing great at IHS and will be a senior this year. My middle girl, Kali, is a PA in the Phoenix area. Our oldest, Courtney, is pregnant as mentioned and runs auctions for non-profits also in the Phoenix area. But more about you. When I see any of you, I will hug you. There is nothing more grounding and calming than to think about all of you and your authentic friendships over the years. Here's to all of you for a great decade #7.
