Jenna's Story

I am still happily divorced and a cancer survivor. I had my much needed back surgery last year and am feeling so much better. I have been working for the same place for 36 years and now just look forward to a retirement. I check on my Dad every week in the nursing care for Alzheimer area. He is getting very good care there and it is across the street from my work and around the corner from home. Very convenient. It is hard to see this happen to him, but at the same time glad my Mom isn't here to have to go through it with him. Life is good right now until the next chapter of my life. Where ever that takes me, I look forward to it. Plan on moving away from Southern CA eventually, but not sure where yet. I will know when I get there and plan on enjoying the journey until then. I will never forget how Keith Victor was always a "protector" for me. The special bond we had is a once in a life time experience. I am grateful to have had him in my life when I did. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Kathy Russell, because she was my best friend at Washington Elementary. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen and add on a sun room. My dream home would be in a beautiful calm city with low population and no congestion. Now a few years later, my Dad is with Mom now and the kitchen was redone. A water pipe broke that made it necessary to update the kitchen. I love the new look. Slowly will work on the rest of the house now. I am not able to move out of state for many reasons so just enj...Expand for more
oy my trips to other places and grateful to have a home to come home to. Still enjoying my retirement. If I won $100 million, I'd give part of it to charity, then spend the rest on friends, , family and my home. My current age is 60. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be retired. I was so completely wrong. I have been working in retail for over 41 years, so my goal is retirement. I share my home with a friend I have known for over 20 years, which I find good since we were raised with the same values and know how to respect each others boundries and thoughts.. In 10 years, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by working hard on that goal now.. Barbara (Hayes) Chester who I met at Compton Jr. College. We have remained close friends throughout the years thru thick and thin. Births and deaths. We will always be the best of friends. My first job was at Newberry's Snackbar, where I got paid min. wage plus tips to take the orders, cook the food, serve it and clean up afterward. What I remember most about it is the neighborhood. It was in Compton on Bullis Rd.. Watching my father leave home to go work the Watt's Riots in August 1965. My Mom, brother and I had to leave our home with guns in our hands for our protection and go stay in La Mirada with my Uncle. I never thought I would see my Dad again. A terrifying experience. As of September 1, 2011 -----I am finally retired. Thirty-six years, ten months with the same company is enough. I'm finally starting a new chapter of my life.Kathy Russell
