Jennifer's Story
I may be old and I may be fat but I is still here!
I truly believe life begins at 40. High School was something we either lived through, laughed through, or escaped unscathed (or maybe not so unscathed.) through... I remember laughing through it, rather loudly as a matter of fact.
Ford (my only child) is an attorney for the state of Montana, he went there for college and never moved back home, There are parents that dream of this. He doesn't call home enough so I gave him hell in a text message! Oh the times they are a changin, yes they are. The BIG news on Ford is he's engaged to a great young woman (Rosie) with a 2024 summer wedding planned. I have not even mentioned grand-children and it's been since January of 22, Now that is restraint.
Life gave me many interesting careers, from hairdresser to Automotive Industry. I was in fine jewelry for many years as sales and a diamond appraiser and will end my resume working with high school kids with emotional and behavioral disorders.
Favorite time in my life was "mom" for 10 years; that 10 years included a lot of volunteer work at Ford's school. There was Challenge Math (I was challenged!), Destination Imagination/Odyssey of the Mind (it got crazy fun) coach, PTA President for a couple of years, "school mom." School Mom was the best career ever!
In 2000 I was divorced by my airline pilot husband of 16 years and went to work for the Anoka/Hennepin school district working with Emotional/Behavioral Disorder teens for a few years. This is an adventure in itself, unless you have tried it you can't fully appreciate the exhilaration of seeing a teenager turn that corner and get on the right path. INCREDIBLE! It also gave me good skills for dating middle aged men :-) As a senior citizen I have quit dating, period. y let my hair go "natural" (who knew I was so gray under that hair dye?) so I left it until I had accepted that I am a blue-haired old bat and that took awhile. Photographic proof provided.
I am less than 8 months away from retirement and the students are giving me a run for my money (the money being my pension). If I survive this ridiculously long year I plan to move into an old folks building, glower across the table at people with bad table manners, shake my stick at whomever I please and shoot pool. These teenagers have awakened that in and I have learned it is actually easier without beer, like who knew that?

I did the late life college thing and got a business degree. Worked in for a large auto group in Minneapolis on the management team for their Buick GMC dealership, the recession brought cut-backs, and I was downsized out of my job in 2012 (the recession was brutal on us Baby Boomers). I went back working for them until 2013-2017 and decided I needed to work at something that at the end of my day I could feel good about other than people and their cars so I went back to working with teens with behavior problems. Now I can look forward to retirement without regretting that I didn't give back to my community more and with student loans of my own :-(
So... This is my current Bio... ), happy enough but less outgoing (still laughing out loud, most often at my students). I found a couple of H.S. pics in the yearbooks posted on this site! That's Shirley LaMay behind me in the one I posted as "then" I was in 11th grade and 16, Shirley would have been a senior and 17... Shirley, I still type 30 words per minute!
