Jennifer's Story
Life
I played in bands, made it on MTV briefly, then went solo. I've played from LA to London, although admittedly not to arena-size crowds. Current band is Smash Riley (google "jennifer ellen cook" or "smash riley"). I work for myself as an editor (doctoral dissertations, of all things). Life is good; I make my own schedule, do what I love (editing, music, scuba diving, destruction in the name of interior design, etc.), and have great friends. Most recently, bought a horse and am learning to ride (English) and jump.
School
You remember me, the annoyingly idealistic brainy kid that looked like I was 9 years old? I wore pink Converse high tops and everybody thought I was going to hell for it. Well, don't you feel silly now? We were all a little idiotic in high school.
College
Too bad I was too poor to go somewhere incredible. Summer in Oxford, you know. Nontheless, brainy girl here got lots of prestigious, LOW-PAYING scholarships outta high school. So UT and...Expand for more
music. Thus...college meant a lot of beer. Beer, going on tour with the band, still getting good grades, and getting out before the scholarship expired. With the useless degree(s) of English/Math. Oh, brother. I think I thought I'd become a novelist. There's still time, I suppose. Basically, college meant learning how to stand in line, deal with bureaocracies, raise your boredom threshold, survive with no sleep, and drink beer.
Workplace
I work for myself as a freelance editor, mostly academic dissertations, but including books.
Music: Played from LA to London, although admittedly not to arena-size crowds. Still play with a band called Smash Riley.
I worked for years managing a Half Price Books store. Worked for an insane millionnaire, running his company and financial affairs until his affection for weapons and drugs got a little disconcerting. Then switched gears and work part-time at UT with Ed Fuller, the rest of the time at my home office. NO CUBICLE!
