Jennifer's Story
I started out at Macomb Community College after high school and took a few classes, but turned really bored. For about 12 years, I worked at a bunch of miserable jobs and decided to finish school. I returned to college at MCC, then transferred to Oakland University to get my journalism degree. Frankly, it was the best thing I have ever done, as I got much better grades later in life. It was hard, but fun. My first job out of college was at a daily paper in Hillsdale with an editor who shouldn't have been working with people or animals. six years. Eventually, they got bought out by the competitor and I got kicked under the bus. I was unemployed for 13 months, but continued to freelance. But a job where I am at now, Angola, Ind., meant a move out of state and arrival at another daily paper three years ago. There have been adventures here: I accidentally threw my keys in the dumpster, there was a car bomb explosion at my old apartment, I was made a guy on my driver's license here. Through it all, I have grown A LOT. I won my first major award this year from the Associated Press: first place for ongoing breaking newsf. Things are always cooking, but I am content doing what I love. I live with my kitty, Poppy.
